Make sure you have the SYNC button on when you turn it off (pressing your fan to the lowest setting until it is off). I have read this issue and it seems like due to SYNC being off (where the driver has no control over everyone else's AC/HEAT), issues can arise. That's just my first diagnosis. Try it and see.

EDIT: Also, take a picture for us before you shut the car down so we can see what buttons are GREEN (on) and what is off. Then, when you start it up, take a picture so we can see what exactly turns on. Thank you.

The car is so tight and sealed you could pass out by breathing all the oxygen. So they make the default on.

How do you change it to off? It's kinda annoying it turns on every time I turn the car on. Thanks

Hi. I have tried everything you said but the ac/heating still automatically turns on when I start the car. Does it have anything to do with profile setting?

That could be possible. I, myself, have not set a profile. Go into those settings and see. It might be best to delete your profile and start over? I'm the main driver of my car so the seat and everything stay as is without pressing 1 or 2 since no one messes with it.

Yeah, that's what mine always is and then I hit the OFF fan button to shut it off. When I shut down my car, it would be off. Then when I turn it on, it stays off because that is what I had it as last. Remember, I have no profiles. I just looked up in the owner's manual on page 35 and 36. This is where the profile information is and to change and reset the profiles. Follow the instructions. On page 37, Automatic Climate Control is listed as a setting that is specific for your profile so that seems to be culprit . Let me know if it works after you've changed it.

So I tried everything you advised to do to change the setting but was unable to. I finally contacted bmw genius hotline and was advised that the ac/heating system does turn on automatically when car is started to recirculate the dead air and will shut off automatically after a few minutes. I also contacted my ca and was also advised

"There’s nothing wrong with the car. BMW changed the setting on that. The ventilation will automatically turn on once you start the car. Sorry nothing we can do to change the setting."

Thanks for your help anyways

At least its a simple press of the button to turn it off. More of an annoyance than anything. One thing I'd like to see changed is the driving mode memory. First thing I do is click on Sport mode when I get in the vehicle. Why, oh why BMW can this not be a memory setting?!?!

Does your ac/heating system turn on also once you turn on your car?

Yep. I'll try a few scenarios later when I leave work. Stay tuned.

Sorry to hear that. I did not know it was an automatic (unchangeable) feature. Perhaps it can be coded.

Yeah, I just read through that whole thread. Seems like a standard thing. Oh well, what can you do? It's annoying, but the remedy really is just one button tap (FAN OFF) for it to be off if you have SYNC enabled.
