2013 135i Amp Installation
Not sure if this is the correct forum to post this question but here goes.
I'm looking at adding a couple Fosgate 12's and a RF P10000X1BD. Does anyone have experience upgrading their audio system? I'm looking for advice on the wiring harness specifically. Are there OEM adapters to convert to RCA hookups? A wiring diagram would be very helpful to identify the proper "remote" wire hookups as well. I'd prefer not to splice any cables if at all possible. Any suggestions or links to harness diagrams would be great! Thanks! |

I have a 2009 that came with the 10 speaker hi-fi system (not top hi-fi). I purchased a harness from a member named Technic a few years ago that takes the inputs to the OEM amp in the rear and coverts them to RCAs as well as wires that route back through the harness for the speakers. In other words, unless you plan on sending crazy power to the tweeters, mids and mid woofers under the seat, you don't have to reroute the OEM speaker wires. I run the RCA from the harness to an MS-8 that runs everything but the subwoofer and take an RCA output from the MS-8 to a JL 500/1 to run my subwoofer. I would shoot Technic a PM. I'm sure he can make a harness to suite your needs.

I also bought a harness from Technic in the last few months. I replaced the factory amp with a JL XD600/6 seamlessly with that harness and I intend to also add a JL XD600/1 amp for a sub.
But note, I specifically selected the JL amps because they can accept a balanced input, which comes from the BMW factory head unit. This is not common in an amplifier, so the Rockford amp you're looking to add may not be compatible with the factory system. You may be better off just converting a speaker level input coming out of the factory amp (which is likely in the trunk, that's where it is in my 2013 135i withOUT the harmon kardon upgrade) into an RCA input for your amp, especially if you're only adding a subwoofer and not otherwise messing with the remaining system. |
