Hi,
I will buy very soon my new tires for this summer. Which of these sizes is the best for a 128i with M sport package and 18" wheels. Make your choice!!! :thump: Kafou |

None of the 128i power mods compromise that DD status. I should know, I have them all in my daily driver.
Square setup dials out a good bit of the factory understeer. I really doubt you will need a 245 setup as I'm significantly up over stock power and running 235 square. You also start to run into front wheel fitment issues at that point.

I guess I always considered the 1 Series a lost cause in looks, so I focused on function.

Looking at the same situation this spring. I'm going to use the staggered stock 263 wheels and go w/225's squared. Don't see the need for more rubber than that on a stock car and those fatter tires just going to cost you more at the pumps.

225 squared. there's no reason to have anymore tire even with all the power mods for 128. Running a staggered setup is a a waste of tire, money and weight and causes understeer.
For the record i run 215/245 on my summer setup and it's unnecessary and has a lot of understeer compared to my winter setup which is 225-45-17 squared.

No matter what, just go square. 225, 235, or 245, depending on wheel size and other mods. I'm running 17" 245's all around with no fitment issues.

As someone who runs 235 square in the summer with all the power mods, you really don't need 245.

You may not need 245's for traction but it will give the rear rims better protection.
The cars tendency to understeer can be fixed with some front negative camber. 225F / 245R tire sizes can give nicely neutral street handling once you add front camber. |

Well, it's pretty close between square 225 or staggered with 245 rear. Have read a lots of comment from members who prefer square but not that much from the members who voted for 245. I'm curious to hear your comments. My wheels are the 261, so not the same size front and rear, I don't think that if I go square that will be a problem but if so, tell me...
Thanks Kafou |

One reason why I decided to go with 225/255's... was that the 255 rear tires were a lot cheaper than 245's versions Just something to consider. What ever tire you go for make sure the tire sidewall is reinforced(higher load rating) for better turn in than normal tires would provide. My new Michelin PS3’s 225’s & 255’s… http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...chelin+PS3%27s

True, but why not add negative camber and square the tires?

I think it depends on the type of handling you expect and what you will use the car for. The car can still have plenty of turn in with staggered tires. If still using stock rear sub frame bushings I think its best to be cautious about adding front camber combined with non-staggered tire sizes.
The stock rear subframe bushings can cause unpredictable handling, which can be a very unwelcome source of instability. I wouldn't automatically recommend non-staggered tires in that case. |
