When I see Travis Barker play, all I see is a lot of excessive arm flailing, but very little substance. I won't say he's a bad drummer, but he really isn't that great either. I guess its a bit like seeing a Honda Civic with no true performance mods, but plenty of stickers and purple headlights.
If your arms are going to move that much at least make it count for something. I do know of a drummer that does an amazing job of combining amazing skill with a bit of flash. Here's John Blackwell:

There we go...the sickest drummer hands down on this page. I agree with Lars too only because he created a niche for himself -- he basically created heavy metal drumming...it sounds generic now but at the time...simply amazing Also check this guy out, he is ridiculous. Mike Portnoy |
