Report: BMW Bids to Purchase Saab
BIMMERPOST NEWS Report: BMW Bids to Purchase Saab The latest news in Saab's bankruptcy involves BMW. Saabs United has reported that 6-7 companies have bid to purchase Saab, which is currently in bankruptcy proceedings. According to the report, one European company "is German and located in Munich," which no doubt means BMW. Autobild suggests that there are even more interest parties (up to 14), including Chinese and Indian companies. Saab won't necessarily be sold to the highest bidder however, but to the company offering the best proposal (with respect to benefit for the company, employees, creditors, etc.) What could BMW possibly want Saab for? As we already known that smaller FWD BMW models are coming, perhaps this is BMW's play to build larger FWD cars without using the BMW badge. via Saabsunited and Autoblog |

I support anything that keeps BMW badges from gracing the bodywork of FWD vehicles...

Good news. I've known in the past that BMW will support engines to SAAB, so it seems things have become more clear and apparent now. I also support the growth of BMW by any means.

Interesting. I knew Saab was in financial trouble, but I wasn't aware that Spyker was looking to unload them.

Well, I doubt that all of these companies would be bidding on SAAB if it wasn't worth saving. They need a huge multi-national company to take them over to make things profitable again. SAAB has some really nice designs and great heritage (similar to BMWs in that they started in the aviation industry, could be wrong on that one though). It is definitely a company worth saving. I just hope that if BMW does indeed take them over that they aren't going to spread themselves too thin.

Am excited for a BMW-owned Saab; they're a great company they just need management that is not mentally handicapped (cough, GM, cough, Trollblazer, cough). If BMW doesn't bother to keep the Saab name alive, well, it's another established factory at bargain basement prices. http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2...existence.html Quote:
http://www.saabgroup.com/en/ SAAB is a great company, and I really would like to see BMW or another well-established, worldwide advanced automobile company pick up it's remains instead of a Chinese carmaker who can't even pass Euro ncap crash testing.

I think it would be awesome. I've always liked Saabs for some strange reason, and I'm sure whatever they would do to Saab would be an improvement. But really? Saab just came back with 2 refreshed models and it's in bankruptcy? Oh well. It would be great if BMW could bring them back.

The Saab group hasn't owned the auto company for a long time, although it once did. When I asked a GM guy at an autoshow about Saab after they took over what the biggest change he saw, he said you could now call someone on a Friday and actually find them in the office! GM brought both good and bad to their marriage - access to a lot more buying power making commodity items cheaper, and access to some of the better parts in the international parts bin, but IMHO, lack of purpose and identity and a lot of the uniqueness that set them apart in the time while owned by corporate SAAB group was lost in the process.

Just the other day I saw one of the newer 9-somethings at night and was thinking that the LED eyebrow looked a lot like the E82 LCI. Maybe they already started collaborating?
In all seriousness, SAAB has a great and quirky heritage and BMW has done well with similar brands (MINI, RR).

Never liked Saab - just a blahh car even though they had many innovations. Personally I see no reason why they should keep going because what they once had is lost nowadays.

I think it's genius!!! Saab inspired from Jets and Planes and BMW with Jets and Fighter Planes heritage!!! Anyway, this might not be the case but BMW always had a method to their madness.
As far as the RR collaboration. Before we broke off with them, we picked up something hence the xDrive!!! AWD Soooo... which means Saab has something that BMW could use!!! Genius!!! |
