3 days of ownership...pot hole tire damage and a nail
Man...picked up a used 08' e90 M on Wednesday...by Thursday I had hit some type of hole in the pavement in NYC somewhere...didn't think it would do damage but I've also never had 19s before...I guess lack of much sidewall means minimal protection...saw a pretty bad bubble when I came back to the car later. (wife now going on the 'i told you we should have got an ML350'...) Then Friday, I'd been driving like a puss (scared of tire bustin') trying to run a few basic errands (also called around but my chances are slim to find the tires in stock somewhere)...then low tire pressure comes on...I thought the bubble had started to leak...then noticed it was a different tire! Left rear had a nail in it...all tire shops already closed...went to gas station...inflated it as much as i could...left it overnight...was looking really flat this morning, lucky tire repair place nearby could plug it for 10 bucks...
Guess the guy at BMW trying to upsell the tire/wheel insurance wasn't lying when he said it will pay for itself...and I consider myself a careful driver...but i think these shabby roads are going to win out...dunno how anyone lowers their cars out here. Ok, I'm done venting...cost of M3 ownership in the north east I suppose =) I'd post a pic of the damaged tire(s) but I'm too annoyed. |

I see a series of bad events nothing to worry about. Just start dodging holes. Lowering is a little more difficult to pull off in NY but isnt impossible for a person dedicated to doing it. All the best with the new ride.

Saw the thread title and thought, "Let me guess, NYC?" Amazing. Just think, by Spring it will be worse, if that's possible.

Looks like the rim is fixable so at least all is not lost.

Do any of you know how to get the insurance? I've been calling up BMW but since I bought my car private sale, they say it's only offered at the dealer at point of purchase. So I'm kind of screwed...they also gave me a crazy quote of $5100 for additional warranty for another 2 years (from the factory 4 to 6)...quote was from bloomfield bmw

IMO, buy tires from tire rack or other vendors with insurance. Also, buy another car for your DD! If you can afford an M3, you should be able to afford a beater for the winter or daily drives around the roughy roads of our wonderful tristate area

this is terrible. I drive my car in NYC a little (its parked in a garage and is usually a weekend fun car) and was thinking of upgrading to 19s. But forget it now!

You are all crazy....
.....to buy an ///M3 if you live in Jrsey City, Hoboken or NYC and the five boroughs. I just drove the LI the other day and the roads are just retarded. Why anyone would buy a sports coupe as an everyday car with those roads is beyond me. What is the point? Not like you can enjoy her.
Sorry, I'm just blown away by how many own cars like that in the city. Cheers, e46e92

Yup...it's a love of cars. An M is never going to be necessary or the most practical. It's pure joy sitting behind the steering wheel, although not in NYC...definitely happy hanging in Jersey nowadays.
