Let me repeat for emphasis, that 75-300 is crap. The 18-55 kit lens is ok, but money is better spent elsewhere. The 55-250 isn't bad, but for the total price, you'd be better off getting a 60D and a good 50mm f1.4 and grab other glass later on. B&H has the 60D with the 18-135mm new for just under $1100. That would be a better deal.

What 18-55 is it, there's lots of those now, with and without IS and I and II.

I ended up changing it to:
EF-S 18-135mm IS f/3.5-5.6 Standard Zoom Lens + EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS Telephoto Zoom Lens |

Hmm... would I have been better off paying an additional $250 for the 60d?

Maybe. Might have been better to skip the 55-250 and put the funds toward the 60D. A good part of that focal range is already covered by the 18-135.

Wow, they're really giving them away these days. For that short change, you might as well keep it. It really isn't a bad lens. I've taken quite a few keepers with mine.

60D is a nice option if you're going to be in more sports type situations.... it processes pictures marginally quicker as well as a faster shutter speed. The horizontal level is a nice feature, but one i've only used on my 7D just playing around, never seriously.
I believe the 60D may also have a better auto-focus? maybe i'm wrong, been a while since i've looked. skip the 18-55 for sure, they lack in a lot of ways, the 75-300 is a nice shooter from about 100-200mm, but anything outside that, there's a lot of separation and drop in quality. good luck with your shopping. |
