Sat in an Ariel Atom

I was hanging out with Garreth who's a member or Classic Car Club in NYC. He was driving the white e30 M3 and a Miata race car at NJMP for the BMWCCA HPDE event last weekend.

He was mentioning all the cars the club has and he said they had an Ariel. My heart skipped a beat. I said we need to see this immediately since it was garaged at the track. He has had a ride in it, but hasn't driven it yet. They want him to have more track experience before they allow him to take a car with 300hp (yes, it's the supercharged version) and a little more than 1,100lbs.

He said the car is just incredibly fast! They actually tether your arms in so they don't flop around. He had a difficult time keeping his head on straight! The wind just wanted to turn it sideways.

Here are the pics. Unfortunately, we didn't get it out of the garage, but just sitting in it was fantastic. Once he's able to drive it, he's going to contact me so I can go along for a ride. I can't wait!!!

It blows my mind to think if our cars had the same power to weight ratio, they would have 900-1000 hp. I'll drive one... someday

I have been in one of these, on a twisty back-road. The sensation of speed is immense, and the chassis feel is really superb. You need eye protection at all times.
