Adventures in 1m ordering

Talked to the sales guy today, while trying to get dates for ED.

He says week 36 or 37. Great, they had told me my order date was 10/1, so things must have moved up.

Then the bomb shell, "We had to ordered it with the premium package to get the computer to take it and moon roof."

At this point I take a deep breath and say, there is no option for a moon roof of these cars, and WE agreed to order a AW stripper.

Well, they are looking into it, but good lord, you think you would get a phone call to ask if you wanted an option package...... I don't want the package but will live with it if I have too, but a moon roof? Really, has anyone heard of moon roofs in these cars?

The salesman called back. He edited the order.

Turns out I was not the only 1M order at this dealership. The dealer is really small, so I don't see them getting but one allocation. The guy with spot number 1 had not put a deposit down and I had, so they moved me to spot number 1. The 1st guy's cars was spec'd for OV and premium package. They changed the color but not the options.

Long story short, I was not going to get a car because I can't see this small dealership getting 2 units. Things have worked out to get a car, so thank God!

^^It doesn't matter what options a car is ordered with. You CAN always change the options as long as the car has not entered production. Normally up to two weeks before SOP(start of production).

Right. I think status 112 is your last chance...status 150 and your SOL. If you can change the color at this point, I'm sure you can still change the options.

Well, not to make you nervous or anything, but do you really have that much confidence in these guys?

+1 on this info .... you should still be able to modify your options and you should be insistent to get what you want ..... this is not an issue unless they have already started production. Good Luck!

Part of me does and part of me does not. I lived with the owner for 2 years in college but have not talked to him about the car/purchase. They own a lot of dealerships (mostly ford).

So, the sales guy knows I know the owner but I have not called to burn a favor with the owner because things seem on the up and up until yesterday when I found out that I was not 1st in line. Looks like I was taken care of on that front yesterday.

The CA is to call me back today and depending on how that goes, I may finally bump my old room mate to call in a favor of just checking on things.

Last year, a friend of mine went to a Ford dealer to buy a car they'd advertised in the paper. The sales manager refused to honor the advertised price. (It wasn't so low that you'd think it was a mistake - just a good deal.) So he called the owner, who was a personal friend. The owner called and chewed out the sales manager, then came down to the dealership to personally make the deal. Then, suddenly, they couldn't find the car. Literally said they couldn't find the car.

They eventually found it, but by then my friend had had enough, so he went elsewhere.

Congrats, bud! Really glad it worked out! Hopefully, it's not snowing so you can enjoy more spirited runs! But could be in time for Octoberfest?

Total incompetence from the dealership. Congrats on getting it resolved.

The car has finished production and is ready for Ed pickup 1st week of oct.

If I did not do Ed I think the car could have been in my garage in late oct but I have wanted to do an ed for years.

Congrats bud! As evident in the last few ED posts, it should be an unforgettable experience! One day, I hope to do it.

Mine is the 4th.

My route

London
Inverness
Edinburg
Munich
South to one of the castles
St goar to look at the Rhine
The ring
Munich to fly home

16 days with my mid-60's mom (she was the only one that could go)=trip of a life time with one of the people I need to be spending time with the most. Her health has been going down in the last few years and I don't know that she could make this trip in 5 years.

As I get older (early 40's), I am beginning to think time with the kids and parents are about the most important thing a person can be doing.

The other thing is to mentor the younger engineers on my team. Give back more than you take.
