Help! Challenge Trunk Slightly Uneven!!

Like the title states, I need help with my Challenge trunk fit. I love this trunk but get this nasty feeling every time I look at it because I know it's not perfect. I know some of you know the feeling I am talking about.

Anyway, I contacted some of you mod-shop guys for advice, and while your quick responses were great, unfortunately it did not fix my problem. So I have hence decided to post this in a couple threads with hopes that someone can explain to me how I might be able to fix this myself.

I had a Challenge trunk installed by a friend who was doing me a quick favor. When I picked up the car, it was almost dark, and I was able to see that for the most part, everything fit great and looked fantastic.

Fast forward a couple days, and I am constantly noticing a gap on the left side of the trunk (where the bottom of the trunk meets the bumper) that is significantly larger than the gap on the right side of the trunk.

I was given advice to adjust the knobs on either side of the bottom of the trunk that supposedly will increase or decrease the gap as need be. I adjusted these knobs for a little while (man, they are not so easy to turn!), but had no luck in fixing the spacial issue.

This leads me to believe that the problem may lie within how the trunk was originally secured in the first place, or with one of the bolts on the left side. I have posted 2 pictures below for your reference --
  • One with the trunk open (it accentuates the gap)
  • One with the trunk closed

Please let me know if you think I should continue to adjust these bolts, or there is another fix that I am overlooking.

I'd definitely like to avoid taking it to a shop, as my friend did a really clean job on the install, just needs a minor tweak it seems. Here are the pics:

Trunk closed:

Thanks for your suggestions everyone, I'm sure I can work this out.

He could, but I dont believe it will fix the side to side discrepancy he's having. Something's up w/ the driver's side not closing all the way.

Either way John, lmk if you want to come by and have us take a look at it for ya.

Alternatively, we'll be at bimmerfest if you are we can take a look at it there for ya too

good luck
