Aftermarket Springs!? YES or NO

After a trip to EAS I saw an E92 on aftermarket springs and thought it looked great

I'm thinking about it purely for the looks. Otherwise the car rides great for my style and I don't want anything too stiff.

1. What are the pros and cons to lowering the M3?

2. For those of you who have aftermarket springs if you could rewind the clocks would you do it all over again!?

Sounds like you want a conservative drop to make the car look better while still retaining stock drivability. Just what I wanted and I went with the KW Sleeve-Over kit. Never looked back once, I think you'll love it. Ride height is adjustable and the ride is still comfortable even on the lowest setting.

Works 100% with EDC. It's designed to work with EDC. No canceler's, no error codes...no BS. Just mount everything up, and you're good to go. Me and a friend did it in my garage with normal tools

I know the KW adjustable spring kit is nice option but for conservative drop, springs should be sufficient enough. I know the B&G springs have a nice drop with great ride. I felt the stock ride had terrible rebound and springs alleviated a lot of my DD complaints. I thought the car should of came like that from factory and clearance and obstacles were of no issues. My spring experience: eibach - too mushy and barely a noticeable drop, h&r - great drop but terrible ride quality. RD sport and B&G - great aesthetically appealing drop with a still civil drop quality. Just my 2 cents. Just trying to save a fellow member from wasting money on the wrong products. Learn from my first hand mistakes

what if you'd want a drop but also track regularly? (say 1-2 times a month, maybe more).

But don't want to do a full coilover kit as you DD the car and love edc on comfort...

Not only would I do it again, I would have done it as soon as I bought the car! I installed Eibach springs and I love how good the car looks and how the ride is still as civilized as it was.

For M's with the EDC option:

Springs = Retain EDC functionality and lowers your car; [Good to use with your DD as the M has relatively good shocks]
Coilovers = Lose EDC Functionality, but gain the ability to change damping and ride height characteristics to your specification (for the most part)

Note: If you have the EDC option on your M, and want to retain this option, then buy springs. However, if you want the most versatility in ride height and and handling, and don't mind not being able to use the EDC, then buy a nice set of coilovers. Keep in mind while some kits say they will work with your EDC, they actually mean they disable your EDC option. More or less tricking your system into thinking you still have a hookup with the EDC, but really don't.

Got H&R springs installed at EAS. Drop looks great and not too overdone like the RDsport does to me. The ride is definitely more firm in comfort, and I probably would have gotten the B&G if they were in stock as they retain the quality of the stock ride better, but have gotten completely used to the H&R springs and am very happy with them. If you are not on the younger side, opt for B&G

If you don't mind losing some balance and handling then go for it.

If not stay stock or go with coilovers and get it corner balanced and aligned.

My experience with aftermarket springs...

Cornering becomes tighter

Con: High speed (115/120 and above) become a little more "bouncy" when hitting road imperfections.

Looks are up to you.

TIP: get yourself some bump stops (I don't remember if it's from a Z4 or Z3) to replace the stock e92 bump stops. There's a big thread about it and I did it when I switched over to H&Rs. It's tones down any "cons" aftermarket springs may have.

I'd recommend the Dinan suspension kits over eibach or h&r. You'll retain OEM travel and have a subtle but definitely noticeable drop, excellent handling and a ride that I prefer over stock. Only downside is cost.

You can do whatever you want without EDC, you're not limited like the guys with EDC.

Wear out your shocks with any aftermarket spring and BMW will not warranty a shock replacement. Except Dinan, of course. And springs will put higher wear on your shocks.
