The V16 was initially developed for the Phantom but customer input preffered the V12.

The V16 was shown in the 100EX Concept Car @ Geneva 2004 which led to the Rolls-Royce Phantom DropHead Coupe.

Rowan Atkinson was one of the first Phantom customers and has stayed with the brand and is great friends with some of the Goodwood team including RR Design director Ian cameron. So he knew about the secretive aspects of the Phantom and it's development.

As for future Production input? Not a chance. BMW are more confident that the respective V12's in the Phantom and Ghost are adequate for their needs and of course meeting efficiency targets.

As for BMW? True a V16 was tested as "Project Goldfish" in the late eighties as a reason for Wolfgang Reitzle to really give Mercedes-Benz a fright, but the imminent recession killed it's future. Although if you are expecting BMW to implement a V16 in a super-sports car ? It is not going to happen. Especially because BMW want to retain their lead as the Worlds most efficient automaker. VAG is nowhere near BMW in efficiency tables thanks to Bugatti and Lamborghini which have them at the end.

If the M-One project reaches production it will either use a six or eight allbeit a special unique engine that answers to that specific car.
