Swirls in 2 weeks.
This is a shot of the rear c pillar.
I specifically told the dealer no car wash upon delivery. The car was delivered filthy. $500 new car detail 1 week later. Car parked on dirt parking lot on windy day for a few hours. Could this really have been caused by car being parked in the dirt for a few hours, or was this a bad detail? or was this from the dealer? Do I need polishing already?? How can this happen?

That's definitely from the dealer. Your detail you got could have caused it as well. I have yet to go to a "detail" shop and see the results that professional detailers like on this forum have produced. No way the dirt caused that because those are swirl marks derived mainly from improper cleaning techniques.

Who washed the car after it was sitting in a dirt parking lot? That could have caused it.
Otherwise the detailer didnt do his job correctly. Also yikes at the $500 detail price.

I was waiting to buy the proper car washing products before I touched it. I parked the car to get groceries and on the way back when the sun hit it, my jaw dropped.

Yea then the detailer is to blame if hes the only person who had washed it since you bought it.
Go back and bitch.

either washed w a dirty sponge or wash mitt, detailed w a dirty pad, before the car was totally clean, or even dried after some dust settled on it while still wet...
I recommend to prewash with foam, use two clean high quality mitts and two buckets. try to sheet as much water off the car, and try to use drying towels as little as possible. these new cars and their soft environmental clear coats are not easy to maintain..

You're in SoCal and haven't talked to Eric from Envious Detailing about proper maintenance and detailing on your new baby? You might want to give him a ring...
Here are some of his professional articles: http://www.detailedimage.com/Ask-a-P...eric-schuster/ |

I can't speak on Eric's prices, but I can tell you most guys charge by the condition of the vehicle, not the age. Your "new" car detail is going to be looked at the same as a properly cared for 5 year old vehicle most likely. It just matters if you really want to do it right and then properly maintain your vehicle from there using the right products and techniques. If not, then you'll have to live with swirls and your car looking "good." Going to a get like Eric is saying you don't accept "good" but rather you want nearly perfect. Anywhere you go, you'll have the best kept vehicle and no other BMW you see will look nearly as good - even on the dealer's lot. |
