From zcp to dinan st 1
I know this thread has kinda been brought up but.....Has anybody noticed a difference in ride quality and handling? Are the different edc settings still noticable? Im asking because my local Dinan dealer wants $2478 installed for Dinan stage 1, labor, alignment and sales tax. Kinda high, but thats the price. For a $2795 plus 800 labor $3595 I can have KW v3. I would think this is going to handle and hopefully ride much better. The only thing that i dont like is that i lose edc functionality. Any opinions.

Definitely, felt it was an upgrade over stock. Felt more comfortable (increased travel) on road trips and sharper at the track (camber plates). Would get those two and call it a day.

The quotes price is way too high. Dinan says it takes 7 hours of labor including alignment. 7 hours x $125 an hour is $875, plus say $1100 for the kit = 1975, NY sales tax is 8.something lets say 9% is roughly $2,150. the quote is $300-400 too high. Also, hourly labor could definitely be cheaper, I went with a high figure to be safe.

I would never pay $2500 for Dinan stage 1. Much better option to go with coilovers if they are only slightly more $. Eibach's cost me about $700 installed (parts, labor, alignment). I'm just not a big believer in Dinan's system actually being worth 3+x's more just because of their shaved spring perches and e36 bump-stops that cost +/- $40 from the BMW parts catalog. I would also consider the Ground Control system before Dinan's Stage 1, 2, or 3. I'm not a true Dinan hater but I can't get on board with their over priced suspension systems.

Dinan is still trying to figure out spring rates/etc for the ZCP. I would call them first (not your Dinan dealer, call them direct) to make sure they have a setup for ZCP.

Dinan Stage 1 is only $1,099.
http://www.dinancars.com/shop/D190-9...ly.aspx#page=3 Buy it directly from Dinan and then have your dealer install it. |

I spoke to them today and the new correct price is 2366.78. They only have one type of spring and they it is optimized to work w EDC, not necessary ZCP. They had plans for shocks but they feel the oem edc shocks are very good. Is a ground control kit really that good? I dont want the springs to overpower my oem shocks. Are they progressive or linear. Dinans are linear. I really like KWv3, but i really dont want to lose the EDC functionality. Im just not sure if Dinan ST. 1 is really gonna be an upgrade over ZCP. I know KW also makes a coil sleeve kit as well. Dont know.

According to Dinan, the front strut mount and rear shock mounts is what makes a kit "EDC specific in addition to the spring rate...FYI for all. EDC shocks apparently have a different shaft diameter.
If I ordered my M3 with ZCP, I would likely just get the front sway bar, camber plate, and rear toe link.

With the GC you can select from various spring rates. My car performs better even with the softer variant (not a track nut) I got a nice drop, less body roll and EDC, while less effective, still works great. I love the ride of the car. It's more planted, less roll, ride quality is stellar. I'm done pitching GC... I just like mine and found it a steal for the money. I could go on and on tho... camber plates...adjustability, etc etc |

Not sure why anyone would choose Dinan Stage I personally, esp if they have ZCP....springs cost 300.00, so shaved spring mounts and e36 M3 bumpstop worth 800.00??...also, to charge that much for spring install is crazy...many local shops will install for 2-3 hr labor at 100.00 per hr. I am getting my GC coil unit installed later this week and will have pics to show afterwards....GC kit is cheaper than Dinan and you get camber plates worth 300.00 at least, you pick your own spring rates and get modified bumpstop and spring perch. |
