BBK question
How does a BBK - like the Stoptech trophy kit, for example, affect the e-brake? Does the e-brake still work? need extra parts? does it keep OEM parts, etc?
Thanks (guess it's kind of a lousy time to ask since I bought my BBK, but I just didn't think of it) Thanks! |

Short answer, no. You don't need to do anything with e-brake.
However, some race design brakes do require removing the ebrake, but they would be written in discription. |

Yes, your e-brake will still work. There is no extra parts to install during the BBk installation process and oem e-brake components are retained with the exception of the oem e-brake drum, which is part of the rear rotor, but it's replaced by the trophy's.

Like what Harold said. The rear rotors have a steel rear drum for the e-brake, and weight a ton compared to the fronts.

It depends on who makes the kit, and whether they intend it to be usable for handbrake turns or not. The aluminum e-brake drum won't stand up to that kind of punishment, where a cast iron drum will.

That's what I thought. Maybe it's just the Trophy system?

Here's a picture of my rear axle w/o the OEM disc/drum. You can see the e brake shoes behind the hub.
And I believe that the OEM drum is aluminium... correct me if I am wrong. |

The Oem rotors rear hats are aluminium, but have a steel liner pressed in.
Brembo and Stoptech use aluminium hats that are hard anodised. Alcon uses a steel rear hat which weighs a ton Last edited by alpina527; 04-10-2011 at 03:12 PM.. |
