I've got this crazy idea about our Calipers..
I was looking at a DIY for replacing brake pads...and someone say how we've got some big calipers..
What if a new type of caliper was created(or already exist) that would wrap around the WHOLE disc;unlike our half moon style, but the new caliper would physically take the whole disc and wrap around it! Like twin Calipers or something.... Silly idea... but just curious as to what you all think about it? Hard to explain I know..

don't think it would work, too much heat, the "half moon" calipers already on cars everywhere are more than plenty. 6 piston caliper brakes are more than you need.

I know what you mean but that would more or less go against every modern principal for brakes. Think suitable performance / efficiency / heat management / weight / material wear and then think about those in an enclosed system. Bad in all cases. Possibly some application for wet weather though but can't see a realistic case for that.

Correct, I wonder if there was a possible way to hook up a brake cooling system with a substance to supercool the brakes, but then we come into the problem where it will heat than cool then heat and cool much more feircely and cause a faster breakdown in the disc.

Like someone had said, "Too much heat." Your idea is like the re-invention of the drum-brake.

Someone needs to invent heat-less magnetic brakes that will never fade

That's what the Prius and the Porsche GT3 Hybrid use - they run the electric drive motor as a generator to slow down the vehicle and put the kinetic energy into a storage system. "Magnetic brakes" are a reality today.
As far as the OP's suggestion, the size of the caliper doesn't really influence how well the brakes work. A larger caliper with larger pads will have longer pad life than a smaller caliper with smaller pads, but it won't stop the car any better. Stopping distances will be comparable. What will be different is weight. A full-diameter caliper system will weigh more than a "normal" caliper system. Basically, it's extra weight for no tangible benefit. |

So weight is the the main problem along with not being able to cool the rotor then.
