Stop Tech VS. Brembo
Alright guys I'm really in the market for a nice break kit. Been seeing a lot of stop tech kits on the e9x's, but brembo is the god father of breaks. My decision rest in your hands, So Please if you have either of those or you think there is something better let me know!

If you have the budget, go for Brembo. They are both well respected manufacturers but Brembo is the standard for high end performance brake systems.

Here is a quick comparison of the StopTech Trophy and the Brembo GT-R kit:
The StopTech Trophy uses the two piece style where both the Brembo GT and GT-R are monobloc. The Brembo GT-R also uses dual inner piston seals and stainless inserts. PM me if you have further questions. |

I recently installed the ST kit on my car, ST-60/380 front and ST-40/355 rear. I have not had it on track yet, but I can say the brake feel is noticeably improved, with a higher, firmer pedal, and great feedback. If you are considering 380 rotors, the Brembo requires more clearance, which will slightly exacerbate the problem of finding good, 18” wheels for it (if that is your intent). They are both excellent, with proven track records. IMO, StopTech is a better value.

If you are tracking your car get StopTech. The extra money you save can go towards rotors and brake pads.
I had StopTech front and rear on my E46 M3 with slotted rotors and they were awesome on the track. Also looks great. If you want it more for show (and/or track), then I guess you can pay extra for Brembo.

I just installed the Stoptech trophy kit on my car and the braking is improved a lot. If you want to go for the Stoptech, make sure get the Trophy kit. It's about 16-20% lighter than standard one. I think both kits are excellent. If you have extra money, get the Brembo because it's more well known company + looking

Anyone with the ST having problems with vibration that comes and goes?
I've called them and they said it's the pads their using, and they'd get back to me... that was almost a month ago now!!! Not too happy at this point.

No problems at all with the StopTech street pads. I'll use something else on track, but these have been great so far, no vibration at any speed. You mention a vibration that comes and goes. If you mean you notice it at certain speeds, then yes, I think that could be the transfer of pad material on the rotor. If you mean it goes away and then returns under the same conditions, that's different, and does not sound like pads. Regardless, I suggest rebedding the pads and see if that has an effect.

If you are on the original pads and never swapped them out, then maybe go out and try bedding the pads again to see if the vibration will go away.

I just purchased a StopTech trophy kit. I looked at the Brembo GT kit (GT-R is too $$) but the deterring factor for me was the fact that the pads cannot be swapped out without removing the calipers.
The bridge design in the Stoptech makes swapping pads much easier. Good luck.

If you're looking at the bigger kit and want to run an 18" wheel stick with Stoptech. I have the 380mm Brembo kit and there are only a few wheels that I know of in 18" that will clear them. My 19" RACs and 20" BBS LMs barely clear the rear.

StopTech KNOW'S ABOUT THIS issue. Howard openly said they've been getting calls about this since they switched to the current pad as the standard pad. What's dissapointing is the lack of support from them after a few phone calls and multiple reassurances that he'll get back to me... which never happened. It pretty much sucks to spend $5,000 on a BBK and it's sucks for daily driving because of the pads they provided. I even offered to drive over to them to check it out.

Both will work better than you can imagine. Just flip a coin. The pad issues on ST are easy to solve. Change pads to Axxis Ultimates for the street, PFC01 or 97 for the track. It's not brain surgery. |

Honestly I never had any issues with my kit... with the Street Sport Performance pad (the ones that came with the kit and spares I just ordered)... And mine has been driven by advanced solo drivers to professional race car drivers.
Both of them are great. I have ridden/driven in cars with both. There is so much BBK discussion on this sub-forum. Please do a search. Search phrases: BBK, AP, StopTech, Brembo... |
