Damn - Can't drive for 4 to 6 weeks!

On Australia Day a 16 yo P-plater on a 50cc scooter cut in front of me on the Vespa, clipped my front wheel and I went flying. Woke up in the ambo on the way to hospital. Anyway, three days in hospital, a broken clavicle, four fractured ribs, annoying double vision, a slight pneumothorax and severe road rash later, here I am contemplating being a passenger for the next 4 to 6 weeks.

Admittedly it could have been a helluva lot worse but the worst part is the missus has a choice of three cars and is eyeing off the M3!!

Hey mate, sorry to hear about what happened. It sounds like a huge mess and you're lucky to be alive from what you've described. You suffered quite a few injuries! I wish you all the best in your recovery and hope you get back into the drivers seat soon. Bloody P platers!

Rest up AMK, don't rush the recoup else it may take longer.

Maybe get the missus to get the M detailed for you and set your self somewhere where you can just look at it. Another thing to do would be to get GT5 and play it all day! hehehe

Well it's good to see you're recovering mate. Did the other person stop after the accident?

Wow! Bad Luck, mate....

Similar thing happened to me in Bali of all places, on outskirts of Ubud (middle of the forrest).

Going around a bend at 70km/h on a motorbike on a highway with cars flying at 100k's in both directions and my front tyre gave way on sand that I couldn't see at night, I went flying and tumbling, landing in a 1m deep (and hideous) gutter - was very lucky as the bike went across traffic landing on the opposite side of the road.

I was thankfully wearing a helmet but was only in shorts and tshirt (both ripped up completely) Broken clavicle and wrist and plenty of road rash. The next day I took the earliest flight back to Oz and recovery took 6-8 weeks....that was 5 years ago and I'm mostly all good now!

How are your wrists? That's the only real thing still giving me issues... I play alot of sport including BJJ so I do test them out a fair bit.

Get well mate - sounds like you were both lucky and unlucky!

Rest up!

Glad to hear you're doing okay mate, definitely sounds like it could have been a lot worse. Try your best to rest up and let the healing process do it's thing. From the little I know of you, might help to look at it as well deserved break! Best of luck on the recovery mate, hopefully you get good soup - the only plus side in being sick for me!

Next time take the M out, not the Vespa!

Mate, so sorry to hear.

What's happening with the P-plater?

Think of it this way - when you get back in the M, you'll be home again :-)

At least with double vision you now have 2 BMWs. Speedy recovery.

Nasty turn of events. Get well soon! Stick to the M3 and steer clear of the vespa, too many bad drivers/riders around to guarantee your safety irrespective of how good you yourself may be.

P-platers... hands down worst drivers, with perhaps exception of indecisive old drivers on restricted licenses (which itself was a pretty senseless medicolegal decision by RTA - permitting drivers deemed unsafe to drive on our roads to drive within 10km of their home! WTF??? They are UNSAFE - get them off the roads!)

amk, sorry to hear about your misfortune - but, as you say, it could have been far worse. Just tell the wife "Hands off the M3!!!!"

Thanks for all the good wishes guys. I can handle the broken bones and road rash but the double vision really is the worst part! Had an MRI today which could best be described as being stuck in a 44 gallon drum for 15 minutes while people beat it with poles and rocks!

Of course there has been no shortage of mates who are willing to babysit the M3 for a few weeks!! Think I'll just put it on the trickle charger.......

I had an MRI of my head a few weeks ago. Trying not to sneeze for 30 minutes while having my head clamped down inside a giant electromagnet was NOT a fun experience. Bloody noisy too. Got the results today. Apparently, my brain's "normal"...

I'm guessing your double vision will disappear when the swelling dies down.

Put it this way, now you can see two M3s in your garage, pity you won't be able to drive either of them for a few weeks. You might disappointed when you get better when you only see the one.

Got my MRI results today...(1) They did find a brain and (2) it's OK...so that's good news!

May take this opportunity to put the M3 in for a professional detail so when I can drive again it'll feel like a new car!
