Dvd player won't work

Hey everyone. I just bought a pre owned 08 135i and it had Idrive. I am curious as to why there is a dvd slot under the cd slot and yet it doesn't work when I insert a dvd. There isn't even an option for dvd on the entertainment screen. What are your thoughts?

Ps: I've tried with the car on, off, parking brake on, etc. nothing works!

It's for maps for the navigation only. Not for entertainment purposes

I know, its kind of hard to believe that they made a whole extra slot just for a navi dvd.... which I dont have BTW (got the car used a few days ago). Anyone know where i can buy the dvd for a decent price? If its over $20 might as well use my phone ...but it would be nice, know what I mean?

I'll admit, I actually tried to play a DVD movie on it the first day i bought my car. lol

Try craigslist or ebay. If you're willing to accept a disc that's maybe 1 or 2 years out of date, you can probably get it pretty cheap. Even an old version is better than none in my opinion. It seems a shame to have a car with the nav system but no map dvd. Several years ago I updated the NAV DVD on a 335i I had and sold the old one on craigslist for about $50 bucks.

NOt sure on E82 but a friend of mine bought a 2010 E90 and he was able to play DVD while the car is park.

yeah in 09' they made it so you can play dvd's but while only in park, but those of you with an 09' and up you can get the smartTV control module to watch them while driving http://www.europeanautosource.com/pr...oducts_id=2319

BMW went to a HD based Nav system for both the 1 & 3 in '09.

Vladr, why wasn't the Navi CD in the drive when you bought the car? It should have been.

The 2011 replacement CD set (there are now 2) is $199 at a dealer, unless you want to buy a pirated version.
