Battery Replacement for 04 525i

I replaced the battery on my 2004 525i two weeks back. It is very easy. The battery sits in the trunk towards the RIGHT corner of the car (if you are standing behind). I used INTERSTATE MTP-H9. It was $ 199 + tax. This is the exact replacement for the BMW battery (same characteristics and Made in Germany). I had posted on this forum about battery registration. One of the BMW Master Techs adviced me that "Battery registration was only for Battery memory in the car. The car needs to know if the battery is fully charged. If the battery is fully charged always, then after couple of months the old data in the car's power memory will be replaced with the new one. If the battery is not charged fully, the the car will start shutting down non-important functions first followed by others. So, it is your call if you want to pay $ 50 or so to an independent shop to register the battery or not. They just clear the error codes, etc. Nothing more. The dealer had told me $ 394 for the battery replacement. Good luck.

This is good news. I had read on another board that the $450 replacement at dealership was required.

Your additional info about registration also sounds good if correct and I am hoping that it is. It just contradicts what I've read elsewhere.

This battery issue has left a bad taste in my mouth for BMWs but if it's a $200 issue vs. $500, that sure helps.

Any other comments on this?

I also own an 07 530i in addition to my 06 330i. That may help my post make more sense.

I would get the battery from someplace other than the dealer, install it myself, and then have an independent shop register the battery.
