Painting CSL Trunk???

hope you guys that have done this can help me

i got a Vorsteiner trunk from a member here but it is not in my color so i need to get it painted to match my cars color.

the place i went to get a estimate (i thought you could just paint the trunk and swap out the oem one and be done with it)

he says he needs the car there bc he needs to spray the quarter panels also in addition to the trunk

have you guys ever heard this?? he says he can paint just the trunk but it prob won't match and he would need to blend it into the quarters for it to come out right

i am not a fan of any body work being done to my car so i will only do this if that is the way to do it

for those guys on here who have the CSL trunk how did you go about getting it painted?? did you just paint the trunk and swap or did you blend into the quarter panels???

any help would be greatly appreciated

my car is Sparkling Graphite Mettalic if you need to know the color

thanks

H

AFAIK, you only need to paint the trunk to whatever color your car is. This info is based on the option to actually have the trunk prepainted your color when you buy it new, and I don't think anybody who ordered like this, or had it painted after, had their quarters painted to blend the trunk at all. The shop probably just wants more money out from you. Try asking a couple of other shops, find out what they say.

Give him your gas cap to have a sample of your paint color so he can colormatch it exactly. No need for anything else.

just get the trunk painted and thats it... i wouldnt bother with the quarter panels. Ive never had my quarter panels blended for either of the csl trunks ive had installed and there was never a problem with color matching

Find a better shop that can do the paint match. He's trying to take the easy way out.

thanks for all the replies guys

the shop is actually a really good shop and does alot of high end cars, and is used by alot of dealers that is why i went there bc i heard such good things.

but i am not a fan of what he is saying and like said maybe he is looking to get more money from me. i will just have the trunk painted somewhere else then oh well

he also said if i wanted to do a new hood he would have to do the same thing as well. does that make sense to blend the fenders for a hood??? my car is not that old or anything

yeah i am just gonna do that. i will have a different shop just spray the hood and trunk seperate and then i will install them on the car myself to save some labor as those are easy swaps. i don't see the need either to have my fenders and quarters blended on the car. seems like he is tryin to get more money

when i called back his excuse was that on a black car etc it would be ok but being a silver mettalic car it needs to be blended to come out perfect bc no two paints are ever the same etc.

i never heard of this plus when IND sells trunks and hoods they paint them and ship them without blending anything and they are the best around i have seen there work
