New 2011 angel eye question

Seen a brand new 335i at the dealership the other day and the angel eyes are awesome. Bright white and evenly lit, exactly what all of us have been looking for from the aftermarket, yet every aftermarket kit falls short of these eyes.... Anyone know anything more about them and if they fit the M3 and more specifically an '08 e92 m3 ?

+1
serious modifications to the stock bumper would have to be made. unless you want to run a 335 bumper instead.

Yup, the angel eyes on the new 335's are sick!!! Its even brighter than my LUX H8. But they do have a hint of purple which some people may like. I would imagine replacing the LED bulbs would be $$$. But I guess in the meantime while they're under warrenty that wont be an issue.

For the kind of money you'd spend on the headlights, let alone the modification to the bumper (if it's even possible), why not just take the plunge and get the OSS upgrade?

given the safety/reliability issues with a few of the AE solutions out there, i'm going to go for the OSS AEs and be done with it...

I didn't know if they were the same light or not. They look much better than the OSS do too, in my opinion.

BMW went with LEDS for the new Angel Eye design. I agree, they look awesome. White and even. They debuted on the 5 series GT.

Much different halo design, would not be a bolt-in.

A few of the aftermakret companies should start making bumpers that accept the new lights.

+1, and they are doing it right this time. It's bright and evenly lit, but not overwhelmingly bright like the Audi and new Mercs.

It might be a little more complicated than that. Hood might also be an issue, so is headlight mounts.

I totally agree, Kev. The Audi and Merc LED's can be seen from miles and it's overkill. I was looking in my rear view a few days ago and from ways back I could see an A4 coming pretty fast. It's a bit of a heat score IMO.

They do look better, but OSS would be cheaper and wouldn't be as overkill. Mind you, I've yet to see the new LED's on a 2011 on the road so I can't comment on how overkill they are unless I see them.

That's what I should have done instead of dealing with the whole LUX issue. But to the defence of the LUX, they are actually bright in daylight and at the end of the day, their still P n' P. If I want to go back to stock, it's only 5 mins away, and with the power supply and inline fuse now on the outside of the headlight housing, I don't think there is anything to worry about anymore.

Not cheap, about $500 or so after shipping. The P.I.T.A is that you have to remove your headlights and ship them to Florida. Kind of sucks! If it was local, I would've probably sprung for it.

^--- It would def be overkill to retrofit them.... Too bad the car didn't come from the factory with them.

BTW AiB's had the same problem as the LUX did... All aftermarket stuff sucks... So far out of all the aftermarket stuff I've bought, the only thing that is actually nice is my Akrapovic slip-on exhaust. The Eisenmann and AA rear sections were pretty decent too. Everything else has been ehh..... why bother. If the car just came from the factory, slightly louder and slightly lower it would be perfect.... I'd stick 100% stock and love it.

I wonder if BMW will release an OEM LED retrofit for M3s...

Thoughts on umnitza vs. AiB (EAS) solution from users?

My AiB died and my LUX H8 were recalled - both vendors (EAS and NA motorsports) were outstanding in taking care of me.

LED lamps are solid state devices and will outlast the car. If there have been problems with the aftermarket it's because of heat buildup in the ballasts.

Unlikely BMW will come out with anything, but some aftermarket vendors might figure out how to do it. For one, it's a completely new headlight design in the 2011 (for which the M3 won't get). Two, it's just technically difficult to open up these headlights and reseal them properly. I would just go for the F1 Autohaus / OSS Designs angel eyes after seeing the new 2011 models. They really know what they are doing and do a great job.

I looked at a 2011 328i coupe yesterday at the dealer. The angel eyes are visible during the day and appears to be a color temp of 4300K (white with a slight hint of yellow, similar to stock HIDs). They are also evenly lit. Here's a picture from e90post showing the new angel eyes:

My guess is they went back to a design of light tubes similar to the old E90.

Yes, I am starting to think that I may just do a straight bulb replacement (like Vision X). I know it's not perfect and it's not LED, but the thought of putting something that has a serious chance of electrically failing in my car is...very unattractive.

OSS and RD seems to be the only vendors I can find without these faillings and further manufacturer madness.

I suppose I should replace the H8 and H3 bulbs with Vision X models for consistency.

I agree with you on this one. The OEM e90 angel eye design is evenly lit when compared against the pre-LCI e92
