Airstrip availability
I am pretty sure that many of us would like to take our cars out for some fast action without the fear of getting into jail. It would also help us understand the effects of mods and adjustments we do.
Does anyone know any private airstrips around here? There are few 1/4 and 1/2 mile drag areas but it would be nicer if we have a longer straight. We can drag from a stand still or 50kmh rolling start. What do you guys think?

Sounds good, keep us posted if you find anything / need to get a few people together to rent it out

i'm in if you can find a place.
May want to look into regional airports such as Manassas or Stafford/Dumfries, etc

Your best bet might be a smaller town where the air strip isn't used that often like Front Royal air port. The problem is almost every small air port is used on the weekends so if anyone would let us use it, it would be during the day on a week day.
I seriously doubt anyone has a private air strip that isn't grass.

+1. I fly and can tell you that all the airports I know of around here are quite busy on weekends. But there have been times where they have closed for part of the weekend for special events, usually some sort of air show. Lots of times these have cops and fire department there.
Good luck. I think you'd have to go quite a ways from the DC-Baltimore area to find one willing to rent out the runway. I'll keep watching this thread. If anything comes up it sounds like its gonna be fun. Cheers.

I believe for stock cars (E92-M) we need more than 1/2 mile to get to 0-150mph. (found somewhere 1000 meters @ 143 mph - probably MT). so i think we need a straight line of 1 mile to get to 170-180 range.
Maybe we should just ask Highway authorities to close I-95 for couple hours

The airport in Westminster MD (Pogue field I believe) is just about a mile long. If I'm up there anytime soon I'll ask the management. But don't get your hopes up.

Good idea, but it will most probably expensive rent out a private airstrip. More people, less money per person of course. However finding one that is available is not going to be easy. You might be luckier finding one that has been decommissioned.

Guys, I sent emails to couple dragstrip locations that have 1/2 mile dragstrip (+ slowdown area). However its not cheap, and unfortunately during a week day. I guess we all can use a "sick day" at work. I am still waiting information on this.
I would appreciate if you guys also do some research on this. Thanks

i can only do weekends...
can't skip out during the work week for something like this. Maybe if enough ppl chip in, that would reduce the cost?

on e90 post someone rents a dragstrip for a day every few months. The cost has always been $100 per car. We can all just go to one of those. Can't do anything but go in a straight line though an abandoned airport would be awesome.

Just let me know the dates...I'll be home on R&R and would love to take the car out on a few spirited romps when I'm home in May.
