open your armrest as shown in the pic, insert a plastic wedge pry tool into the space between the console trim and the lower console in front of the arm rest, then lift.

It's easy. Unsnap the shift boot -- the ring at the bottom is plastic and flexible. Just grab the leather around the edge and lift, it'll snap out. You don't need to completely remove the shift knob and boot, just pull the boot ring up. Then reach in through the shifter hole in the console, grab a side and snap the console up. Then from that side you can grab a hold with your fingers and just start unsnapping things all around the console. You'll need to lift the rear up first to work the front of the console all the way out. The ashtray, DSC/EDC/power buttons and the iDrive knob (if you have it) will need their wire harnesses unsnapped. Then lift the console out. The leather shift boot can be twisted around a little bit so that it fits through the hole in the console.

Piece of cake. Don't forget to snap all the wire harnesses back before re-installing.

Cheers.
