BMW Performance Gear Shift (Pix)

Quiet day here so thought I'd do some research on BMW Performance parts, the car is only a few weeks away now.

Over the past few months we have all discussed the Carbon bits and pieces for the 1er but not much has been mentioned about the Alcantara Gear Knob and Gaitor...please let me know your thoughts on the quality and feel of the finish plus how the benefits of the short shifter make a difference if any.

Anything that could be mentioned will help me out especially some pictures as not much is around in that department on here.

Thanks 1ers

Hi Richard.
I've got the kit but have only fitted the knob & gaitor so far (30s job). Looks quality! I'm a little worried about fitting the SSK at the moment though as I've found that even with the standard shift I've missed a few changes, including once at the track when I tried to upchange to 4th and got 2nd! Luckily I didn't let the clutch all the way out or I could have over revved the engine. The SSK may exacerbate this.
Cheers, Tim.

I fitted the performance gear knob and boot (wihtout the ssk) and i quite liked the look and feel of it.
however, i found that i had a little trouble of keeping the knob in place, sometimes it would come a bit loose when changing gears and spin around. having said that, it's probably just me, and not the knob itself.... did anyone else find this??? anyone got any tips as to how to get it to stay in place??? or do i just need to push it down harder?

Do not use red loctite, thats meant for permanent/harsh conditions such as transmission and engine (true metal to metal contact with heat, vibration). Only use mild loctite, which is blue in colour, to just hold it in place.

I have the SSK for quite a long time now and find it ok. Not the shortest I've ever had, but the knob is good. Btw, if anyone is interested in the BMW Performance knob and alcantara boot, let me know. I have a brand new set that I bought because I didn't know that the full kit comes with them as well!

SSK is much better at the track than standard. It was the first thing I changed. Don't like the boot or knob so sold to a guy with a 130 (looks good with the performance steering wheel).

Yes you can run the stock knob and boot on the SSK if you like, a few customers prefer it.
