Just booked with Tint-a-car for Midnight express tint
I've just booked my car in with their five dock store, $295 installed, 35% tint.. anyone got any experience with this tint? I think they used to be called Sol-ace, but name changed in NSW.
Should look good

I received the same product,so far so good after a year.one thing I did notice is that the range for unlocking/locking the door decreased compared to when I first received the cat w/o tint.

Got the same on mine and very happy with the result! Though just don’t be surprised how the tint doesn’t stick properly around the black dots on the windows. It looks better after it set properly but at first you’ll probably be disappointed.
They should tell you, but if not, because we have frameless windows which they pop-up/down when you open/close the door... drive the car back home and park it for 24hours and dont open/close the doors. (i know, it was so hard not to drive it!) but i just wanted to ensure it set properly.

that tint is metallic, so make sure that the tint that goes on the back window is ceramic or you'll have problems with radio reception.
then can make the tint stick to the dots if they apply a little extra TLC, don't leave the place until they go over the dotted areas again a couple of times. it makes a load of difference. Check the tint edges from the inside the car as well as outside. You will see some defects that you couldn't see from the outside. It doesn't matter if you open or close doors, but you shouldn't wind down windows for 24 hrs and not wash the car for a week or two. I got formula 1 tint for the same price as they selling you the MExpress for. (but i'm still not very happy with the result) cheers

I probably was unlucky with the quality of the job, but its not so much the issue with tint itself rather than how they handle problems if and when they do arise. Its customer service and satisfaction, it makes a difference for their reputation.
When the tint was applied first it looked shocking, stuck _unevenly_ over dot marix, lots of little bubbles etc. After a little bit of drama the bloke responsible for the job (Steve i think) left fuming and one of the other guys went over the dotted areas with the squidgey and heat gun with immediate, dramatic improvement (why did they have to argue?!) When I brought the car back a month later saying that part of the demister stopped working and radio reception is fuzzy after tinting, they basically told me to prove its their fault otherwise they're not liable. That pissed me off. May be I am unreasonable but I was expecting a different answer, an offer to help, an explanation that this complaints are exceedingly rare, and perhaps a courtesy call to BMW to work out who is going to be responsible for the repairs. I've had my Mazda3 tinted there 5 years ago, and it was perfect. not a spot. But if you do have a problem, you're on your own. /rant off

Dropped the car off, they offered to give me a lift home which i thought was nice, though i politely declined, as there was probably a 50/50 chance one of their guys would drive my car to give me the lift, prefer for them not to drive it anywhere. They also offered to drop it back at my place, pity i'm a bit anal for that.
I asked about radio interference, he checked the windows and said the midnight express would not interfere with the radio. Am looking forward to seeing how it looks, 35% should be nice and dark.

Just got a call to say they've finished the tint, that i shouldn't use the windows for 24hrs to be safe, and that there may be some bubbles initially due to temperature variations while the tint sets. Am instructed to leave any bubbles alone and not try to rub them out, if they don't dissapear within 3 weeks, i can go back and they'll take care of it.
Must say, so far i'm very happy with the service, would recommend Five Dock Tint-a-Car.

I'm going to be tinting through an affialite of the WRX.com.au (Rob Tait - "tinter") site that did my old MY06. Not sure if he does 1ers yet, and he does charge quite a bit. But the worksmanship is second-to-none and he guarantees all his work.
Hoping to get 20% all round. Anyone here done darker than legal? My rex is 35% but never even had it checked. (That's if he will go beyond legal, i havent asked.)

Got the car back, looks great, haven't seen it in the sun yet, so will check out tomorrow morning.
Would recommend Five Dock Tint-a-Car, Andrew was very helpful, they even washed my car for me!

got my car done with Midnight Express yesterday, they did an awesome job, really went over all the little black dots properly, which is a bitch of a job on the hatch, but it's come up really well, makes a massive difference to the look of the car.

How is the radio reception? Did you tell them any special instructions regarding what to use on the rear window?

I just bought a demo car and they are getting ready to pick it up for me on Tuesday. How much do BMW charge for tinting ?
also, can those who got the Midnight express done on their cars post some photos ? I would like to get an idea of how dark it actually is. many thanks |
