what gearbox in 125i manual?
Hi All, just wondering, is the gearbox in the 125i the same as the 135i, where would i find this info?
I don't know why, but my gearbox just aint that smooth, am wondering if we get a different box than the 135 manual, or if it's just how BMW makes em?

135 ain't that good either. Remove the clutch delay valve (CDV)! Do a search on this topic to read the numerous posts.

have checked out the topics, but am not sure this is the same thing.. i know when driving hard sometimes i've missed a gear, I guess due to the CDV (couldn't be my driving! hehe, maybe..)
More the point is the feel of the box, it's not a very slick movement, almost reminiscent of my forester AKA "agricultural" gearbox.. just thought a BMW gearbox would have a nicer action. Was wondering if they substituted some other brand of gearbox into the 125i to keep the costs down and since it's lower power?

Ok, so it is a Getrag box after searching for the id online.. which is good, i had read that somewhere BMW might have put some other generic brand of box in some of their lineup, am glad this was not the case here.
I know the Mitsubishi ralliart colt has a getrag box, the reviews said it didn't feel great, but when you flogged it, the box stood up to work no probs.. was better when driving hard than cruising.

The previous two manual cars I drove before the 135i was a toyota starlet, and the mazada 3. The BMW box is much nicer :P lol. Even manage to pop it out of gear 1 time without trying... (don't ask me why I was doing that).
2nd is still notchy from 1st or 3rd, but not if you are double clutching or rev matching.

from my experience, most gearboxes loosen up considerably after about 6 months or so.
Give it some time and either it will loosen up or you will adjust. Either way chances are you wouldn't think there was a problem 6 months down the track
