Well after lurking on this forum for a while I thought i'd say hello. Although i'm not sure where to call home seeing as the majority of the forum is quite coupe or convertible focused...

Anyway, i'm currently driving a Golf but the styling of the mkVI does nothing for me (bland and a bit chubby). Plus they have done away with manual gearboxes here in NZ. The upside of all this is I have broadened my horizons and ordered a 118d SE hatch with M Sport kit. I know that spec's seem to vary around the globe so here is a quick run down:

-Le Mans Blue / Cloth/Sensatec Upholstery / Aluminium accented trim
- M Sport Package
- USB Audio Interface
- Interior mirror with anti-dazzle function
- Armrest front
- Storage compartment package
- Rear park distance control
- Front Fog lights
- Rain sensor with automatic driving lights control
- Automatic air conditioning
- Cruise Control
- Lights Package
- Bluetooth interface for mobile phone
- Radio BMW Professional

Delivery should be in October, which I guess is when the first 118d's will be hitting Australia's shores too

well done and welcome. you'll only have to fill'er up 3-4 times a year!! those 118's do about 300 miles to the gallon.

Thanks guys, I seem to spend my time searching forums for little tit bits of information to while away the time waiting for my car to arrive.

Earlier this year BMW NZ cut back the range of 1 series quite considerably. The only hatches you can get here now are the 118i, 118d and 123d. The 123d was simply to far to stretch but the 118d should do nicely, although i reckon it will take some time getting used to the diesel power delivery though.

300nm of torque in a small powerband that redlines around 4k rpm should be a lot of fun though

The 118d SE has an RRP of $50,500. The 123d SE has an RRP of $61,000. both prices are for a manual transmission, add $3k to each if you want an auto. IMHO that is a massive jump for an extra turbocharger and the power that it brings.

That's what I thought. The jump to a 135i is even more scary. A coupe 123d SE is $64k, while the 135i SE M Sport coupe is a $81k

I guess you do get a lot more than just the engine. on hind sight - should have got my wife a 135 instead after I discover all those kewl things like adaptive headlings and xwnon

Not really the case in NZ. Granted the 135i price includes the M Sport pack, which is a +- $5k option on the other variants; but other than that the specs are very similar, with Xenons etc. all cost options.

Having said that, i do think the SE spec in NZ is pretty good. As of March this year Bluetooth us even standard on all new models.

I do think the $770 they charged me to upgrade from Glacier aluminium to the brushed aluminium was a bit steep - but looking at the varying specs around the world we do OK (Metallic paint is an NCO for example, whereas in the UK it adds about GBP400 to your cost). Swings and round abouts I guess.

Actually, I went on to the UK site and chose the exact same spec as I have and it came out at about GBP$24.5k. Which is over NZ$60k! so that helps put things into perspective

I new laws in Oz have changed RE: what needs to be included in quoted prices. What additional costs (taxes, stamp duties, on road costs, registration etc.) do you have in Australia over and above the sale price of the car? Does it vary from state to state? Approximately how much?

Here we have an all encompassing "on road costs" charge that covers registration, licence plates, road user charges, fuel, mats etc. It varies from brand to brand and dealer to dealer. Mine are NZ$1,600...

The new laws here are a PITA! They changed in May, when I was right in the middle of looking at cars.

Back then I could see prices, options prices and everything, and the on-road costs were tapped on as seperate. So i could see what % of the car's value i was using on options.

Now it's insane - you can't get prices off the dealer websites, so you physically have to ring up and ask them (in which case they usually flick you off), or rock up to the dealer yourself when you get time.
