Thumbs down NSW Gov't Proving themselves to be idiots again

In today's Sydney Telegraph;

Quote:
Cost of Cool Cars

CAR hoons risk loosing loosing their registration if they raise or lower their vehicles by more than 5cm without approval.

The changes from August 1 mean all modifications will now require engineering approval.

"Hoons may think their car looks cool but as far as I'm concerned anything more than a 5cm change in a car's suspension is dangerous and doesn't belong on our roads," Roads Minister Michael Daley said.

What a bloody tosser! While I understand that some modifications are not safe making it a blanket policy is ludicrous. Especially given that the RTA changed the inspection policy for new vehicle from three to five years. How many 2 year old cars do you see being driven with dodgy tyres etc?

The RTA website does not indicate if it's retrospective but I think it's time to pull out the old tape measure so sufficient evidence is there for those running coil overs etc.

5cm is a heck of a lot to lower a car! This is obviously targetted at all those Supras, Silvias, Celicas etc of the doof-doof variety. I reckon it's a good thing.......

Absurd. How are they suppose to enforce this? The cops would have to know the standard factory ride height of every make of car to enforce this. Old ruling was the car had to be a certain height from lowest part of the car (11cm?). So if you went lower than this is your fault.
So what happens when someone who owns a high riding vechile like 4wd and decides to lower it more than 5cm but ride height is still higer than normal cars?
This is just more useless power for the cops to abuse.

50mm = 5cm. I can live with that.

After looking by many suspension expert, my RX-8 has the best handling when it is lowered by 20mm for the front and 10-15mm for the rear. Adjust the height with corner balancing of car weight and the fat dude sitting behind the wheel. So the left side is lower than the right...!

Now if my 135i is lowered by 5cm it will be on the floor.

You sure it is not 5mm?

Obviously the cops aren't going to check every car! They'll just use the law to bust the doof-doofs! Less of them on the road the better!

Populist policies to look good to constituents.

When I become Emporer of the World<tm> these silly policies will not exist!

The position of Minister of Transport is currently vacant, I have the Ministries of Pow(-der/ snow), Rock (and other musics) and Food filled.

Applications can be sent via my major-domo.

I will hand in my CV matt,

I vouch to make most cars legal.
Ariel atom is perfectly fine.
No stupid ADR rules.
It is ok to drive on the road with helmet on.
There is minimal speed limit on highway.
All people needs to have slid pan practice and know how to drift before getting licence. Trucks not covering load will be jailed.
Anyone over 60 will need repeat driving and do a written paper, updating the social requirement on the road (and leave their 1960 driving habit away).

and many many more.

The cops have this already underway in Sydney..

On James Ruse Drive and other locations the police have random check areas where they pull you over and have RTA officers waiting alongside, set up with their computers and stats ....

I want to sue the driver in front of me slow down too much and miss a light this morning. I want to use her for the 2 minutes of life I lost (worth a lot I tell you )

Back to the topic... how can RTA police the lowering rules... even if they have all the data of stock height... it will measure differently if they are not in a level ground and different tyre pressure.

Ok... and very true. Then I have to say their $300K is not taxed because they can salary sacrify and tax deduct most thing.
hmmm.....
You tempted me slightly but still no. I am not good at saying one thing and doing another.

Why does Turnbull like to be a pollies except getting power. He would have earn much more doing business as he has been doing? or was I wrong.... People have said on radio and newspaper that pollies are not paying much to attract good quality people but general public absolutely think otherwise. I mean calculating all benefits... anything less than $1mil/year seems not significant these days for the "important" job they seem to do.

I will shut up before the "out of topic police" steps in ...
