Too early to take off snows?? Thoughts?
My baby's in the shop so I have the chance to take off snows and put back on my dreaded runflats and gorgeous rims.
Too early?? Asking for it in the Canadian winter?? |

I don't think so -- I'm switching my tires out probably next weekend. Mind you I'm mostly in the GTA

Where are you located? Its more than just the snow you need to worry about...the cold will also adversly affect performance (and therefore traction) with your summers. Cold March nights could make for treacherous driving. I can feel your pain though. I'd love to have my summer rims on, but since I'm on the road for work for 3 more weeks, and can only drive on weekends, my wait is made easier. |

A little cold yet for summers, and they're calling for snow by next Thursday. That being said, I might put my summers on my Miata this weekend and leave the snows on the 1 as my winter beater.
With the crappy, yo-yo weather we've had here in Toronto this month, tho', it's all a crap shoot. Might be +20 on the weekend and -20 by Monday...

I'm in Vancouver and we have had consistent temperatures at or below zero during some part of the day so I'm not taking mine off for another couple weeks at least. My issue isn't snow but poor traction of summer tires at anything below 5 degrees.

Guess a lot depends on if you *need* to drive the car or if it's a secondary car. If you need your 1 to get to work everyday then I'd leave the winters on for another few weeks.

Yea, I'm in Toronto and it's my primary car, but I work at home, so don't NEED to go out when it's crappy. I just miss my old rims like crazy.

If your in Toronto, I think it might be OK but give it 2-3 weeks just to be safe. I've got my summers on /w runflats cuz of my tire/rim pothole incident....

Pack a pair of shorts and a parka, just to be safe.

March always leaves with a bang and last year it snowed in April. Those summer runflats are like driving on hockey pucks anything below 0 degrees.

I'm putting my summer tires on this weekend and I'm in Quebec (Montreal).
I store them at home so it's only 20 minutes to put my winter tires back on if needed. Of course you have to be a little more careful because summer tires are pretty slippery when cold, but once you warm them up it fine. |

I'm in NY and there is no way my winters are comming off anytime soon. Its still 30 degrees here. And it looks like its staying that way for several weeks to come.

I'm in Pennsylvania, and even though the weather's pretty nice right now, I am leaving mine on for another week at least. There's sometimes a last-gasp snowfall at the end of March. Rare, but it happens.
If nothing else, it keeps the wear on the regular tires down! |
