Is a right turn from the left lane legal in Canada?

Yesterday I encountered a truck driver making a right turn from the left lane at a crowded intersection in downtown Toronto. It was completely dangerous in about 100 different ways--cars, pedestrians, streetcars, the whole shebang.

It got me wondering whether this is even legal? Obviously it is routine. I Googled it and found that in many states in the US it is legal, and others it is illegal, but couldn't find any info on Canada.

Anyone know one way or the other whether it's legal here in Ontario??

Not in a car. Section 141 (2) of the HTA prohibits it. Depending on the length of the truck, Section 141 (9) allows for it, though.

I'm seeing an ever increasing number of asswipes making that move, so therefore it must be legal.
Also using the same logic, it seems that U-turns anywhere on any 416/905 area code hwy or intersection are now legal.

The truck drivers and bus drivers think they can do whatever they want. I'm really fond of the truckers that see a light go yellow...then red...so they just go thru the red light...however they do lay on the horn to let you know they are doing it. I guess the horn blast makes it okay!

I'm not sure where you where in TO - In the DT core? But most intersection are often too tight for the trucks to make right turns in the right lane. They often need the extra space of the left lane to make the corner. I believe it has something to do with math - radius, diameter and crap like that hahaha

+1
sometimes its just not possible to turn right frm the right turn lane so they need to cut from the left lane so they dont end up mounting the curb and running over ppl...this is not illegal. its actually the way they are suppose to drive.
