Alberta Owners-Dinan Tune
Has anyone priced any of the Dinan tunes at Alberta Dealers? I'm looking to do my 135i this spring and I was wondering which shops were responsive to doing the mod.
Price isn't the only factor as long as the shop is williing to stand behind the work. |

Both Edmonton BMW and Bavaria BMW do it...and stand behind it.
The ECU tune is a down-time of 10 days, as they send your ECU via courier to Dinan, who in turn sends it back. YES, that's correct! I found it surprising too, but already inquired...so factor that into your plans. While no affect on Dinan parts, labour rates and standard parts are cheaper at both dealerships with a Northern Alberta BMW Club membership. The link in my sig line will get you to the club's website.

I wonder if anyone has it.... that would be one 135i to be scared off (off the line on a safe location for a sprint)

Thanks guys. I'll make some calls this week to inquire over price. I knew there would be the down time. Only hard part is being 5 hours away to drop the car off for that long. Wonder how hard it is to pull the ECU while its down for winter storage?
Richard, did you ever get a ball park price out of the both. Looking forward to joining the NA BMW club this spring. Can't come soon enough. |

Yes, I did...can't recall what it was though...I'll look once at home again (posting through work on this reply).
It is higher than $2,000, and I would despute the Calgary price posted one higher...as being out of date, given the latest dollar to dollar fluctuations as of late. It may have been that low when we were at a $1.10 US, but now that it's nearer to $0.80 US, it's gone up. As to joining the NABMWClub...you can do it online (hopefully fixed now, as it was down in December) or via the mail...why wait until spring specifically?

Hey guys, I have the Stg 2 here in Calgary. I got mine done at RCTS. They are a Dinan dealer here and will get the job done quicker and better then both dealers in Calgary. I have dealt with them in the past and Rej is a great guy. They convert the exchange rate when you get the tune done. Based on your EMU, they might have to send it to the states for the tune. I have a Feb production and EMU80 so I did not have to send mine in. It's a great product and you should fly after that.

Feb production? 2008 car? How can a person determine their car's software?

My car is a pre-feb production as well. Does that mean it won't have to be sent out to be done? I'm trying to make some calls this week. I'll post how it goes. I don't have much faith in the west side Edmonton service department as I stopped in on my only road trip of the summer and the passenger window was not closing (know what it is from this site) and he hadn't heard anything about it. Said they may have to lubricate the sills to fix it, but I reminded him its a frameless window! I stood at the service area for 10 minutes while 3 reps typed away before anyone said anything to me. They were too busy talking to one another and gushing all over one customer who put winter tires on his X6. I'm leary to do the upgrade outside of the dealers as I don't want them to blame the flash for every future problem. I can see the conversations now. "your washer fluid tank has cracked, you didn't have someone do a custom tune did you?"... |

I paid $2150.00 with install. However at that time we were slighter over par. It probably would be more now. However if you get it done by the end of Feb, you get 15% off, that should compensate for the exchange differance.

Per my inquiry with Edmonton BMW a few weeks back, re: the Stage 2 tune, here's the response:

I just booked my 135 into Cagary BMW for the Stage 2. The quote was for $2,385 (taxes in) + installation at $135 - I believe. They are booking about a 8 business days out and need the car for the day.
Hope this helps. |

I think you're a decimal point off on the installation cost...it's over $1,000.

I had the stage 2 upgrade done at Edmonton BMW about 3 weeks ago. They can now flash the ECU inhouse. I dropped my car off in the morning and picked it up at noon. Cost was $2630.00 + gst. (2500.00 for the "part" and 130.00 for labor) The smile just gets bigger and bigger.............
