Premium Sound

Hi all - my apologies if this has been discussed before. Wanted to know the major difference between factory audio system and the premium sound. Is it worth getting premium sound. Does it have a disc changer?

No, it doesn't have a disk changer. I think the major differences are an upgraded amp (300watts vs 125watts or something similar, don't quote me on the numbers), metal cone speakers, and logic 7 (not really sure what it does, it's apparently some kind of simulated surround sound I never turn on).

In my opinion, it is not worth it as the logic 7 stereo is total crap. Many of us have problems with buzzing on bass hits when the car is moving that is still unresolved. BMW hasn't figured out what the problem is. In addition, my CD player didn't work when I took delivery of the car and I needed a whole new radio (only took a day to install once they got it in but it's a long drive for me to the dealer). Probably this would have been just as likely with the non-premium audio but why pay nearly $900 for something that isn't much better and sounds worse in many instances. I'd recommend saving the money and going for a nice aftermarket system.

Interesting, I figured the system might be crap, any insight in regards to the after market system, can it be integrated with Navi, I'm planning on getting Navi, there might be some kinda issue associated with this.

My premium HiFi works and sounds great. I consider the upgrade a real bargain. Using a thumbdrive in the USB port is the new disc changer. JMHO

+1 I listened to the standard and the Premium sound system and I could tell the Premium sounded much better. The base sounded better as well. I just do not want to do aftermarket stereo in a BMW especially since I will keep the car four years then get another one so the price difference is worth it to me.

I say the premium sound package sounds substantially better than the standard system. As for whether its worth the price tag, thats to each his/her own.

I would get it, I don't have it and it is the one option I really wish I would have gotten.

I wish I'd gotten Premium...

The stock system is crap given the 50k price of the car.

i wouldn't say the premium audio is crap. its nice....but as someone else said, id expect more in a $50K car.

however, i DO NOT think its worth $875. if I had to do it all again, i would spend the money on an after market speaker/amp upgrade....

I could agree with this, but if you are unwilling to go with an aftermarket stereo the 875 is worth it.

I have premium sound and love it.... I think it sounds fantastic.

Definitely worth $875 imo.

well, my 1er cent note...

I was stressing (ehh) about not having the premium system.

But, after 3 days of ownership - I'm fine saving the 875 bucks. The stock system really is good enough for me.

The only thing I'm thinking about is maybe replacing the tweets - I have treble maxed and just not hitting the highs as I would like.

Thought of ordering the logic7 tweets - do you think they would swap out - wiring and all??

ok, maybe I said more like 2er cent worth...

Again, this is a hugely subjective topic, the Premium is certainly louder, crisper and generally nicer sounding that the standard system, but I would only suggest you get it if you think the standard stuff in a demo system is not good enough for you ... AND ... you are not the kind of person who rips out the standard gear and upgrades it to a 3rd party system.

I don't have the problem some have with the Bass on the Premium sound, and actually I love the sound-scape you get with the Cinema Logic 7 setting, it makes the car feel bigger inside to me.
