the real gas cap dilemma occurred as follows, i open the cap start filling up, lock the car so i can go into the store, come back out, the car is filled up. I go to close the gas cap and it won't close. it took me a few minutes to figure out the problem. Anyone want to guess at it?

Since where I live the bylaw is that the stations are all full serve I wouldn't know this for sure but I have autolock on my doors as soon as I pull away and I have never had to unlock my doors for the gas station attendant to open the door. I wonder what's different.

That's funny. When I went to put gas in for the first time I looked at the the gas door stupidly wondering how to open it. Sweat started to trickle down my back as I saw myself driving away, tail between my legs, gas tank empty. Luckily a stab at the rear part of the door revealed the wonder that is the gas cap. Saved by ingenuity or luck... I'll let the pundits decide.

However, I don't believe you can drive off, gas tank empty, with your dignity.

Do you have comfort access? BTW - I would never leave the car while filling up - what if the nozzle didn't shut off? Here there is no automatic lock on the gas pump nozzles at self serve pumps.

I use a small microfiber towel when opening it, you can't be too careful. I also apply a little extra Zaino to that area. You can't be too careful.

Same here, the gas-station attendant saved the day, however, I wasn't too proud as I have an excuse, I have been driving old American iron for so long, I hadn't discovered all the high falutin fanciness of these new cars. It was an embarrassing moment anyway.:wink:BTW, here in Oregon, the state rulers have decreed drivers are not to pump their own gas as a job creating measure, I'll stop now to prevent making a political statement, we have a separate forum for that.

I usually jam the fuel cap into the handle of the nozzle and it will hold it open and running while you do something else. It works perfectly.

However, if the attendants catch you doing it they will usually ask you to desist. One guy actually shut the pump off on me one day. He must have seen me on the surveillance camera and shut down the pump from his console.

Anyway, I still do it

I shouldn't have to get the detailing products out every time I fuel up!
