Ok, I think I have become a BMW snob...
I know many of you have owned great cars in the past, but I have not. Trying to go to college, start and run a business I have always opted for the "practical choice" in vehicles. Finally after 20 years of hard work <and marriage>, my wife and I were in a good place financially to buy a luxury sports car > 40k. We looked at Cayman's, 911's, Corvettes and so on. Finally after a ton of research I decided on the 135i Vert mainly from one test drive of an automatic Coupe as the 135i Verts were not released yet. While the test drive was awesome, it doesn't hold a candle to how much fun I have in my car now.
Quite simply I have never driven anything that handles like this car. The engine is pure butter <smooth>, and just pulls and pulls and pulls. The car is refined in a way that I have never experienced before, and while it has its own little idiosyncrasies I am just in awe of the thing after every trip. *Tight*. That is the word that comes to mind when I think of my car. Just freaking Tight. Before getting my BMW I anticipated it to be a more luxurious car with a little more speed then my previous GM transports were. You know what I mean, more do-dads and such to fiddle with? This thing though is simply in another league, and it's not the do-dads! The power is effortless, the handling and steering are telepathic in a way that I have never experienced in an American or Japanese car. It's funny because I am not the kind of person to gush over anything really, but this thing is so amazing and so much fun I can't help myself. Right now my wife and I are doing high fives with our choice of "life reward cars" with 0 buyers remorse. I wish everyone could experience this feeling,

Yup!
And now you have to distill what you wrote to 1 or two sentences to respond to those who think you bought the car just for "status" and that any other car out there is just as good. |

Oh something else happened funny on the way back from getting a movie last night...I am pulling in my driveway and my neighbor who had yet to see the car yells out, "Hey man did you win the lottery or what?" lol

My friend actually asked me the same thing yesterday when he saw the car for the first time, haha. I'm in the same boat as you, lots of hard work and the first "over the top" decision with my money that didnt involve saving, mortgage, etc. Very glad the one came around when it did.

I have to agree with most of the people here. Ever since I was a kid and fell in love with cars. I always told myself that I will some day own a really nice car. I promised myself that every new car I get will be an upgrade. Well, im getting closer, LOL. With hard work and years going by my list keeps getting better.
It started like this 1970 - Chevy Caprice 1974 - Chevy Nova 1980 - Ford Mustang 1970 - Datsun 240Z 1985 - Nissan Sentra 1990 - Nissan Sentra SER 1998 - Acura Integra 2001 - Volkswagen Passat 2004 - Subaru WRX STI 2008 - BMW 135i coupe So now with the BMW it just better than anything Ive own. I think people that start off down the ladder in the automotive world can really appreicate owning the 135. The final destination for me is a 911 Turbo, haha |

I am in the same place related to BMW. It is my first I now there are very few other cars I can imagine owning. I was even looking at the numbers for the Aston Vantage V8 the other day and was shocked to see that while it is a much more beautiful car, the performance isn't that much better.
The other thing that has me sold is the BMW European Delivery experience. I now can't imagine buying a car any other way and totally look forward to less end in 34 months when I get to go back for another car.

The performance figures of the Vantage are similar but the way the power is delivered is completely different. The Vantage wins at high revs when you're really going for it, but the low end torque of the 135i makes it feel quicker when you're not.
And whilst both are great handling cars they also do that in a completely different way, I'd guess partly due to the widths of the tyres. The Vantage feels more stable but heavier in the twisties, whilst the 135i feels more nimble and, well, more fun! Which is why I'm selling my Vantage. I got the 135i as a daily driver to replace an Audi A3 3.2, with the intention of keeping the Vantage as my 'fun' car, but one sunny day a couple of weeks ago I felt like a fun drive and picked the 135i. That's when I knew the Aston's days were numbered...

I had the same feeling back in 1985 when I bought my first BMW, a 320. The 135i is BMW # 5 and I still get the same feeling from every new BMW, they just seem to get better with each model they produce.

don't think you won't be buying more BMWs. I started with a new 3 series ten years ago and 7 Bimmers later, they are still pure driving enjoyment. While Porsches have more soul, BMWs are reliable, fun and practical, while Porsches have just been fun. Don't be surprised if your next car is a 3 series, 5 series or more. Good luck, enjoy it in good health

I'm right there with you. It seems BMW creates a brand loyalty rivaled by no one.
I rationalized that I need a larger car as well, so we're now also in the market for an X5...BMW snobbery be damned! |

If I got another BMW it would prob be a 535i. No real interest in the 3. My 1 does pretty much everything it does, just faster hehe
