Replacing just the speakers - will it sound better?

I was thinking of just replacing the premium 10 speakers with 10 aftermarket high end speakers. Will this upgrade the sound further? I know its best to add an amp but what if I didn't?

thoughts?

Check out the system you are getting first. You might like it just as it is. 300 watt digital amp and metal coned speakers might sound good enough.

The biggest problem with the 1er sound system is the speaker placement, specifically the tweeters. They are way to bright and are right in your face (and aimed right at it).

They do much better on the dash pointed up at the windshield and EQ'd correctly to compensate for the reflection, or at least pointed away from your face and reflected on something. Nothing I can see will make up for this unless you cut some holes and disconnect the stocks. The midranges also have no balls on the doors.

I tried using the EQ on the idrive screen, but it is too coarse and applies to all of the speakers on all inputs which makes it more or less useless.

If I was doing an upgrade I would get some more efficient mids for the doors to help bring up the vocals/midrange. The base honda civic stereo is light years ahead of this system, paper cones and all. I get a goddamn headache after 15 minutes of listening to this system.

I have the Premium Hi-Fi and I have it say I love it! Its plenty for me, the bass is nice, the sound is clear. All my music on the iPod is high bitrate and it sounds great. I thought about adding subs but at this point stock is fine for me.

Wait till you get the car first and then decide if you need to replace everything.
