If the 1er didn't exist, then what?
This just popped into my feeble-minded brain, muddled by way too much work.
I have been interested in the 1 ever since I knew it existed, and then learned that it was coming to the US. My driver's ed teacher owned a 3-series way back in my high school days, and through incessant reading, I learned that a BMW was first and foremost, a driver's car. So, I always hoped to own one some day, and may just do that one year from now. It is obvious that the "addicts" here love to drive, and I love hearing from them. But, here's a question for you 1 owners. Just out of curiousity. If the 1er had never happened, what other car would you be driving now? Another BMW, or something else? Or, maybe you would have hung on to something already in your garage? Just curious! And, thanks for humoring me! |

You pose a tough question, but given the pricing of all the new cars I'd probably try to find a decent 2004/2005 M3 or go with the A5. Would have frankly liked the R32, but not with automatic, no matter how sweet they say it is. Or, potentially an STI, but all of these pale in direct comparison to the brand new 135i 6MT.

For me, I am going to hold off on the 1 series and wait til August when the 2009 Subaru Legacy GT Spec.B is out. They come with so much for the money. 6MT, STI gearbox, STI tranny, Bilstein shocks, Harmon/Kardon 9 speaker premium stereo system-385WATT subwoofer, 18 in wheels, leather seats w/ alacantra inserts (heated), NAV, Sirius or XM, AWD and much more for less than a BMW 1 series. After having AWD for the last 3 years, I just can't give it up. The Spec.B is 243HP out of the box, with just a few mods and an accessport, its easliy up to 300HP. I really don't need a BMW symbol to know that I am driving a nice car. Having a family, a coupe as my only car just won't work.
But, if I was single and lived closer to my job and didn't have to commute in the snow, I would get a 135i..I really do like the car, but my other choice would be the 2009 Spec.B |

No 1er would make me sad....almost bought a VW GTI but realized once I found out what kinda deals I could get on a 128i I ditched the VW in a heartbeat for the 128i....the VW dealer was trying to give me what he called a great deal selling for MSRP...almost made me think I could go the distance and get the 135i but I like to eat and driving is getting more expensive by the day

No, the dealer pushed me out another year. He said I was #3 on the list when that was never the case! I was a bit pissed to say the least. The plan was to get the 135 and then sell it when the GTR came in around June. Seeing how I knew there would still be a demand for the 135, I was hopeful I'd make out ok with the sale and new purchase.

I was about to start building a 1000hp Lexus sc300 before i drove this car. with the amount of power this car has i can't justify the cost of maintaining the Lexus. went and ordered my new 135 Saturday.

No 135i? What a horrible thought!
I traded in a brand new GTI, so I guess I might still have that. But, it's very possible that I might have traded in the GTI on an Audi RS4... really hard to say. Man, I thank God for the 135i!!!

If I had the money. Would definitely go for an RS4 or the 850Ci. Maybe even a mint used 90's 750Li V12

If I hadn't heard about the 135i I would still be waiting on a list for a Mitsubishi Evo X MR. I was actually waiting for that car to come out for almost a year, had my name on a list for nearly 6 months, and then finally when I was really fed up with waiting someone on a forum mentioned the 135i. I took a look at it and started to waffle pretty hard, then finally I said screw it and ordered the 135i instead of the Evo. I am a little sad about missing out on the AWD and DCT, but overall I think I'll be happier with the 135i then I would have been with the Evo.
