A more focused 1 series: ITS COMING
German source with direct knowledge of the goings-on tells us that what is currently in testing is a stripped-out lightweight setup using the twin-turbo six installed in the 135i (as well as in the 335i and 535i). The engine will be set lower within the body work as well to bring the slight top-heaviness of the 3.0-liter twin turbo motor closer to earth, thereby immediately improving cornering abilities. No word on power output upgrades yet, but the acceleration number to 60mph is, according to our source, “pleasantly under 4.5 seconds.” The cry for a tii/turbo-inspired track car, incidentally, has not only come loudly from the U.S., but just as strongly from our former overlords in the U.K. It is this U.S.-U.K. combo that apparently forced BMW’s hand in the matter, overruling the bean-counters’ sensible advice to not produce such a model. Sadly, however, the stunning carbon fiber hood on the Geneva 123d showcar will never be available from BMW directly. Scott26 did indeed say a performance version was coming. The chances of it starting off with the letter M is very slim. Thats fine with me I guess. M stands for money anway...not like this will be cheap. My one gripe of buying a performance 1 is that it wouldnt have that FANTASTIC N54. If theres much truth to this, I can have my cake and eat it too. woohoo! I just want to say congrats to everyone that took delivery of there 135i's. I will wait....IMPATIENTLY for this one. EDIT: LINK-> http://news.windingroad.com/auto-news/bmw/bmw-confirms-what-we%e2%80%99ll-get-if-we-get-a-tii/

I saw the BMW Performance exhaust today.. what a crock of bull. I have this pet peeve regarding tips that make the exhaust look bigger. To me it's poseurish, even on the C4S. The tips on the BMWP muffler were like that too. I was actually excited when I saw it at first, then I realized it was one of those faker mufflers...
I hope they can pull off a Tii-like car, without making it smoke and mirrors, like that "performance" auspuffer I saw. |

I wish the folks on here wouldnt doubt so much. Remember when nobody believed BMW would slap an N54 in the 1 series. They do whatever the hell they want. This article is super recent. Build it and I'll buy it.

It won't surprise me in the least when a I performance variant of the 1er is released. It WILL BE faster and more extreme than the 135i. To think that BMW has blown their wad on the launch model is to completely ignore history. The 135i is a great car already, but it's nothing particularly new. The engine has been in service for a couple of years and the chassis, good as it is, isn't something that can't be improved upon.
It's not if, it's when... I've said it before: I hope they make an M1 and that it becomes BMW's new halo car. I hope they don't hold back, even if it means pricing it along side the M3. BMW fans have worried about a new M1 out of respect for the original M1. I hope they make a new M1 that deserves the moniker.

what about this as an M1? lol
but seriously if they do make a performance 135i they would never call it an M1 but I don’t doubt that it will be redesigned by BMW M division, and I’m very sure they will have one made, if not now later. |

i bet they stuck with the N54 cause if they were to make a TT-I4 it would have to beat out the rallychamps, which would be hard enough to do, and even harder to warrant paying that much more for the BMW that puts down similar numbers to the sti, which the 135 is now barely doing.
theyll figure something out. and i will buy it. screw numbers. im here for shits'n'giggles. |

http://www.bmw.com/com/en/newvehicle...4c_petrol.html with 0-60 on a 320i coupe 8.1s, which isn't impressive but they could make something out of it with a lighter car and TT. However, using the current engine and lowering it sounds great to me it will reduce the front understeer and lower CG and with reduction in weight will make the car a beast! |
