Leather Dash Protectant
I have a 2021 X5M with the merino leather covered dash. What product can I use to protect it from UV that will leave a matte finish? I don't want the semi gloss or gloss look on it.

Colourlock Leather Protector or Gyeon LeatherCoat should work well. I have not used either. I will say that I'm skeptical of the claims on most car care products that say they have UV protection. A couple YT channels have tested with exterior waxes, sealants, and ceramic coatings and none provided actual UV protection compared to clearcoat on a test slide.

The front WS already has UV protection
Do condition it as needs dictate....kinda goes hand in hand, but that also does lead to outgassing:film on inside windshield. If not garage, front WS cover IMO is a must , just to mitigate any potential leather:dash:glue delamination issues |

The WS Cover is a MUST for anyone who wants to keep the interior nice for decades. They actually work well. The BMW one, while expensive provides protection quite nicely and I highly recommended it. It also keeps the car cool in hot summer days as well. Also it must be used all the time as UV rays are ever present, even in cloudy and rainy days! |

Granted a cover is *solid* piece of material, and is a true extra layer, afaik, the UV protection in most modern cars-windshield is like 99%+....
the windshield covering is interesting.....in my experience I've put it up when we have parked the car even on what I would consider full overcast, or even overcast and even in current days like now, where it is mid-fall, mild weather temps And this is already with ceramic tinted windshield. However, when removing the front WF cover, you will definitely feel it has also taken on some heat soak even in these mild days Last edited by chefwong; 10-18-2023 at 07:14 PM.. |

"Findings In this cross-sectional study, the average percentage of front-windshield UV-A blockage was 96%, which was 25% higher than the side-window blockage. A high level of side-window UV-A blockage (>90%) was found in 4 of 29 automobiles (13.8%)." https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...rticle/2522190
