Do you need more downforce?

The answer might be right here with this active aero aid

Perhaps not as far fetched as it seems.

The legendary Chaparral 2E had a driver adjustable wing. The cars designer, Jim Hall, was one ot the first to experiment with spoilers, air dams, etc. Eventually the sanctioning bodies outlawed driver adjustable spoilers and made rules that said that the downfoce had to be applied to the cars bodywork. In some of Hall's designs the spoiler was attached directly to the rear suspension,.

Hall also designed the infamous "vacuum cleaner car" (model 2J). The back of the 2J housed two 17" fans driven by a 45 horespower snow mobile engine. The purpose of the fans was to 'suck' air from under the car and propel it out the back. This gave the car tremendous gripping power and enabled greater maneuverability at all speeds, which cannot be achieved by simpler aerodynamic devices such as diffusers and wings. Since it 'sucked' a fixed amount of air out from under the car at all speeds, downforce did not decrease at lower speeds,,

Thanks for the laugh gearhead!

I have seen some pretty bad wings on the road. This was actually spotted by an E90 member in Toronto last week. Might have been this guys cousin.

IF you have a FWD vehicle, don't you want a rear wing that produces lift?
