I had some really bad news :(

Buddy of mine for many years. Came from the 'wrong side of town' with little by the way of formal qualification. Not a guy to take 'no' for an answer, spent the last thirty years building a successful business. Truly a self made man. He's been telling me for years, that he'll retire at fifty five, with enough to live the life he'd got accustomed to. He was one year from his goal, and well ahead on the financials.
I had a call from his brother earlier today. Last night he suffered a massive heart attack, and they reckon he was dead by the time he hit the floor. A guy that made well paying jobs, for many dozens of people, over many years, was always at the head of the queue when it came to fundraising for good causes, God fearing and church going. Dad, husband, brother and son. Rest easy my friend. I'm now going to get drunk.

Just tell me why the good ones die to young?

Similar story here, not a close friend but I guy I knew. Dropped dead at 52 in his kitchen of a heart attack. All arteries 90 pct blocked and he was in decent shape too.

^^^ That's just it though. People that "look" like they're in good shape often times aren't. Did you know some people that appear slim can still have high percentage of body fat?

You gotta take care of your health, inside AND out.

Exclamation

Sorry to hear this

Take it from a 51yr old.... Do NOT fuck around with your HEALTH!!!
Go and get a Echocardiogram of your Heart and Arteries and also a Calcium Scan Score of your Heart.
While you are at it... Have your Prostate physically checked and your Colon screened.
I do all every year since 45.

If you want to take a sliver of positivity from this thread, it motivated me to get a physical for the first time in 20yrs. I'm 48, in decent shape, but have hereditary high cholesterol so I'm going to deal with it. I got too much good in my life to drop dead in 4 yrs.

Thanks for posting this, hopefully it helps some others

My condolences. My younger brother was a similar type of person. Always working hard and making his own way. He also died of a massive heart attack in his mid-50's. There was a cop right there when he fell and the cop started CPR right away, but the doctors said there was no chance. He was also gone in seconds. I always thought he was in the best shape of all of us (my sibs and I). Such a shock when apparently healthy people suddenly are gone.

I truly hope he had some moments to reflect on his success and family during the drive.
Some of us will have time to look back and reflect, others won’t.
So for us all, turn around once in a while and see where we have been.

Condolences on your loss and prayer for his family.

One never knows when it is your time. I had a Cardiac arrest 5 1/2 years back. If I would have been at home and not on my chiropractors table at the time I'd be dead. I live every day differently now than I did before it happened.

Sorry to hear that, I recently lost a friend I've known my whole life in a similar way.

Really sorry to hear this OP, 52 is no age, damn.

It may be my mid life paranoia but jesus H this seems to be happening a lot lately. My uncle died not long ago from a heart attack though he was mid 70's. Shane Warne was also 52 and just died last week, which feels totally surreal (imagine Tom Brady level of fame for those in USA wondering who the hell Shane Warne is) and yesterday an australian senator died suddenly from a heart attack, maybe 50ish.

I'm so paranoid about this, my blood lines are Maltese so there's family history, blood pressure and cholesterol a bit high, weight was out of control but i've lost nearly 25 pounds so getting there on that front. Still, it's disconcerting to say the least.

It's tough. I still remember hearing my "older brother" (he was really a family friend, but I'm the oldest of my family) dropped on somebody's doorstep at 22. Asthma, not heart, but Dr.s said even if this had happened in ER, the outcome would have been the same.

And this was one of the fastest people in our high school when he ran.

Condolences.
