Video: Doug DeMuro - Vector W8

I know the love/hate relationship with Doug on this forum but this one is too cool/rare not to post...

Enjoy!

Doug DeMuro reviewing a car is like Helen Keller reviewing a TV.

So the 80's called.....

the car is interesting, but man it doesn't stand the test of time. I was having flash backs to some old Chevy Pick up trucks I drove.

Doug is ok I guess.....

I can see one of Duran Duran climbing out of that car, with his parachute pants on.

Doug knows nothing about cars. At all. He reviewed a '77 Eldorado, which I'm very familiar with since I owned a '70. In 15 minutes of blathering on and on about its "quirks and features" he completely missed that it's front wheel drive, which was by far its most notable "feature" and was extremely rare for an American car in the '70s. I called him on it in a comment on the video. It wasn't a scathing or shit-post comment, merely candid and factual. The comment got 300 or so likes and dozens of responses. He deleted it.

He is obviously not a pro and he is not trying to be one. His reviews are different and interesting in other ways, with some humor to it. I mean that's why he is successful. If you want pro reviews, stick to magazines I guess

Baloney. He's monetized. He has access. He shoots multiple takes using high-quality video hardware. That means he's pro.

As a pro, it's his responsibility to get facts straight, do proper research, represent his topics, and be accountable to his subjects. Do all of that, then use it to find your niche and be humorous. (One guy who does all of this well: Jay Leno).

Instead, Doug regularly ignores key things, doesn't care about being accurate to the point of stating personal belief as fact, and serially deletes criticism or correction instead of using it to make his product better, both in his eyes and the eyes of others.

Dude's a yahoo. (And I don't mean the internet company.)

I find his show entertaining. You might call him a pro due to him being monetized etc. but I think his allure is he presents as just an average schmuck who loves cars living his dream. He seems genuine in a way that other reviewers just aren't, and I'm ok with him not getting it right all the time. If I was looking at reviews to make a purchasing decision I'd look elsewhere, but that's not what his show is about.

His reviews are full of superficial "fluff" that I a.) don't give a rat's ass about or b.) could easily have found on my own without listening to his whiny, nasal voice for a half-hour. I much prefer savagegeese, although he's about as much fun as a hungover undertaker with a migraine. Jay Leno is still the best.

DeBoro doesn't even use language correctly or precisely despite being paid as a writer about cars, a technical subject (well, they are for some of us).

He did a review of the Rolls Royce Ghost, and described the door closing via buttons on the dash by stating that the doors closed "automatically." No, they close manually or electrically. The term automatic means something performs some action without human input. An "automatic transmission" shifts without a human telling it when to shift. Automatically-dimming high beams sense a car in front of your car and dim themselves without you having to do anything.

Do the doors on the Ghost close when you get in or out, without having to pull or push them closed or hit the button? No, they don't. Do they close when you put it in "Drive" or "Reverse" without some action on your part? Nope. Therefore, they're not automatic. They close manually, when you pull on them, or electrically when you push the button. Not automatically. Ever. DeMumble doesn't grasp the distinction, clearly.

Since this appears to be the ‘shit on Doug’ thread, i lol’ed when he was “reviewing” the GT2RS and came across the reservoir for the water injection system and had no idea what to make of it

Again, he is a pro YouTuber, he is a car enthusiast, but he is not a pro car reviewer and he is not trying to be one. All he does is show you "quirks and features", I don't understand why people judge him based on some specs that he got wrong, who cares about specs etc when that's not even the main point of video.
Doug and Leno review cars in completely different ways.

That said, I guess some can hate him I obviously dont care
