I drove a Model 3 and Model S back to back

I drove them both for the first time yesterday, the Model 3 followed by the Model S. Definitely very cool! And they are so different from each other.

The Model 3 Performance may be competing with the BMW 3 Series but it does not have enough sound deadening material, so there is a lot of road/wind noise heard inside the cabin.

The Model S is very insulated and surely very relaxing to drive. Despite weighing close to 5,000 pounds, it feels sporty when hustled through corners, likely due to most of the weight being in the floor.

Steering on both cars felt very consistent and precise but offered no feedback just like other electric power steering systems.

I do love my M3, but it seems that, in the near future, with many electric car options including the recent Taycan release, it may be difficult to make a case for ICE. Of late, I'm realizing that I want my car to either sound great or not make any sound at all. Just saying.

Thoughts or comments?

Yeah, same. I'd rather just have a fast electric car than try to save some money and get some mild performance car. Yeah, I'm talking about you M Performance models, or worse, a 4 cylinder engine with an automatic transmission. *shudder*

need better electric infrastructure here for me to buy a electric car, but if you ask me, very interested, and I hope BMW doesn't come up with half ass effort due to their one platform rules all strategy (vs. dedicated electric platform...)

most of the cars dont sound good at all.. i agree.. i prefer to have electric instead of a basic any car.. and its more fun to drive electrics as well over "ordinary non sporty cars".. and a lot cheaper to run..

Don't have a single issue owning an electric car. Just will never be a Tesla.

I would like a whisper quiet 500 mile range electric pickup truck so I can tow my obnoxiously loud, normally aspirated, catless race car to the track

I used to work for Tesla when the Model S was launched. It was definitely a neat car, from the powertrain to the tech and styling. But a driver's car it was not. The thing was a heavy boat that drove much like the F10 5-series, a car that was routinely panned by the press for it's lack of feedback to the driver.

Can't argue with it's acceleration, but otherwise I never really enjoyed driving it. To be fair, I'm not in the target market for these mid-size luxury dad sedans.

I was at an electric car show yesterday, and the guy who parked next to me was a Tesla repair technician driving a Model S. He must be OCD, because at some point or another he fixed cosmetic/trim problems on half of the Teslas at the show when he spotted them. Loose body trim, a frunk gasket that wasn't seated properly, etc.....

Wankery detected. The S2000 for one has awesome electric power steering and it's 20 years old. You don't know what feedback is and there are a million things in a street car getting between you and road feel besides the boost method. And it's not like there isn't an endless list of hydraulic boosted cars with awful steering either.

I recently drove a Model S as a loaner while my 335i was in the shop and I liked it very much.

I've already got a 4 door sedan in my 335i E90 and I've already got an EV in my 4 door Bolt hatchback but if I was in the market for a BIG 4 door EV sedan, I'd definitely consider the Model S. As for the Model 3, I haven't driven one yet but, even if I did, I wouldn't be interested because the size and appearance of the car just doesn't appeal to me.

I thought BMW was teaming up with Hans Zimmer to make an electric car sound track or at least what people think an electric car should sound like.
