Isn't that bad for the fuel pump? Or is that a myth?

I’ve heard/read the same concern; not willing to test the theory myself!

It's no good for the high pressure fuel pumps as it uses the fuel as lubrication for internal parts, but if its a one time gag it be fine, just don't peg the fuel needle everytime lol

.

wow, I didn't know this was a thing ... I should have posted all
the many many times I pushed it to 10 ... 5 ... 3 ... 2 ... 1 ... and
then " -- " (both in the F15 and the F250)

"I coulda been a contender"

actually twice (in the F250, pulling horses behind) the engine quit
at the entrance to the fillin station, but luckily I had enough forward
momentum to make it to the pumps ... and was treated to a few choice words
from the SO ... I think I remember something like "... how dare you do this with
horses in the trailer ..." I deserved it

once was at a large truck stop on the interstate somewhere (the F250
takes diesel fuel after all) and I actually rolled in to the pumps the wrong
way (not that there were any 18 wheelers in the way, it was late at night)

I was treated to a verbal barrage from the remote attendant over the speaker
system, who just didn't understand, or didn't care, that I literally did not have
a choice in the matter ... I kept thinking that had I been piloting a plane I would
have had to repeatedly answer her with.... "unable"
