Ceramic Coating

Anyone have their F15 ceramic coated. Had a quote today. Full decor full paint correction then apply 9h to all surfaces including wheels. Five year warranty for $1050 Canadian. So like $600 USD.
Wonder if this is something worth investing

I enquired about it as well from CeramicPro certified shop in Van but when I got the quote over $2k Canadian, I just ran away. With 5yr warranty, it appears it’s comparable to their Silver package. Did your guy tell you how many 9H layers?

One thing they told me that you need to take your vehicle back to them yearly for maintenance coating to keep the warranty active which additionally costs about min $250 Canadian per year or so.

I am planning on doing it myself with a friend when the weather gets a little warmer. it’s not that hard, you just need time and patience.

What happened to the days of cracking open a few lagers, correcting that paint yourself and slapping on a fine layer of wax, sealant or coating yourself?

^^ plus when your vehicle is brand new, chances are you might not need that much paint correction (if at all).

If only that were true... Dealers really do a number on paint with their "prep" which basically is going through the automatic car wash and then adding swirls with their rotary buffer.

There was a $300k Lamborghini Huracán at my detailer recently (with less than 100 miles) that had some of the worst swirls you have ever seen. Just because it is new, does not mean it is perfect.

If you are leasing, I don't think that it makes any sense forking out 1-2K. If you are going to keep your car, then it could makes sense. It would be better though that you learn how to do it and do it yourself.

I was wondering how much would it cost to get it done right after taking delivery and received several quotes for the Ceramic Pro Gold package, which includes four coats of 9H on paint, one coat of 9H on wheels, one coat of light, and a one-two layer(s) of rain. The quotes were between US$1,695 and US$2,250 plus tax.

I'd rather get a nice tune and muffler delete for that amount and polish my car periodically.

I have it on a 2013 Range Rover, the quote was I think $900 at the time, didn't realize I could get it done cheaper. Anyways the car is still pretty scratch free so I think the coating does work especially because it's parked inside a garage that coating last longer. I have a clear bra on the the hood of my X5, it's got some swirls that don't seem to heal that well, but might because I park it outside on the driveway.

Actually most damage happens before you pick up you new car. Boat or train transportation leaves a ton of metal on your paint. It goes to the dealer and they do not spend the money on proper chemicals to get rid of the fallout. Then some kid with an IPod grabs a wash broom and a bucket of water. Makes his way from car to car. Not using enough lube. Gets a text. Drops the broom on the asphalt then does your new $80,000 car. I have over $1000 of Adams polishes in my garage. Ceramic seems to be the latest thing. I love drinking a few beers and detailing my ride. The ceramic coat just gives another layer for our harsh Vancouver weather.

There is also the times when you think they are doing a good job but make the fatal mistake of using the same brush to clean the wheels of brake dust then your paint.

Think how abrasive that brake dust is and how soft the paint clear coat is. Yikes!

Meh, get some coating off ebay ($5...10) or amazon for $40 if you're fixated on brand names, and dedicate a nice weekend day to diy.

Personally, I think ceramic coating @$600 is what rustproofing/truecoat was in the 80s.

What I did was wash, clay and applied Opti-gloss sealant or Cquartz ceramic coating.

I also have 3 kids, so not having to wax repeatedly in the summer has its appeals.

I can seal my entire X5 in less than 30 minutes. Wiping it all of takes less than 15 minutes.

I m a diy guy and detail my own cars. I paint corrected and ceramic coated my wife's q7 just to see what the hype was about. It was probably the best thing I ever did. Think of it like wax on steroids. I plan on coating my car in the spring.

It's the paint correction that takes so long.

I’m actually doing my X5 on the 18th. Will let you know! Cost $900 for 5 year protection, wheels, glass. My X is a 2018 purchased in October.

I recently just purchased a sealant called Produxa. My wife kept seeing it advertised on Facebook. Looked at it and they had thousand of pretty decent reviews. Not a permanent solution but was willing to try it for $60 (2 bottles). I’m going to use it on my wife’s 14 Grand Cherokee. Anyone else see it or used this product?
