Having had 3 A8’s and A8L’s on the bounce over the last 8 years (they are private cars for me to drive, not be driven in or drive others in), I can wholeheartedly agree with their conclusions.

A8/A8L is very good, but the D5 (latest generation) was just not different enough to my last D4 to be a worthwhile change, and now having had my G11 740d XDrive MSport for 3 weeks, I have already established that it is the better car, by quite a margin, and it is not even run in yet.

It is quieter, smoother and even though I have 20” run-flats, tyre noise is virtually non-existent, whereas on the Audi with 20” without run-flats, tyre noise was always there, regardless of tyre brand (Pirelli, Michelin, Goodyear (both with and without sound absorbing foam).

So the BMW was a great decision, and given that it is loaded with options, also helps - just need to master them all now.

Excellent review.

The Audi fanboys are crying a river over this one:

Not surprising and consistent with my experience with A4 and A6. I have been a passenger in an A8. It seemer nicer and better fit and finish than A4 or A6, but not exceptional. I did look at Audi when I bought my last F10 and the Audi lease deals were ridiculously bad. I did not compare when I got my G12 in Nov '16 nor do I intend to do so when my lease is up.

Some people swear by them, and there are Audi fans just as passionate as BMW fans. It is good to have choices.
