BMW USA Reports March 2018 Sales

BMW Group sales decrease 0.4 percent in March 2018.
BMW brand sales increase 1 percent.
MINI brand sales decrease 9.1 percent.

BMW Group electrified vehicle sales increase 71.1, accounting for 7.4 percent of total U.S. sales in March 2018.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – April 3, 2018… Sales of BMW brand vehicles increased 1 percent in March 2018 for a total of 31,311** compared to 31,015 vehicles sold in March 2017. Through Q1 2018, BMW brand sales are up 3.0 percent year-over-year.

BMW brand sales in March 2018 were once again led by BMW’s lineup of Sports Activity Vehicles and the BMW 5 Series, which has shown strong growth for nine straight months.

“It’s Spring and thoughts naturally turn to new cars with March giving us another uptick in sales – five months in a row – as the 5 Series continues to defy conventional thinking and proves there’s still a place in the market for a great sedan,” said Bernhard Kuhnt, President and CEO, BMW of North America. “At the same time, our X model lineup is expanding with the X2 now fully in the marketplace and Sports Activity Vehicles nearing 50% of our sales.”

MINI Brand Sales

For March, MINI USA reported 4,531 vehicles sold, a decrease of 9.1 percent from the 4,987 sold in the same month a year ago.

BMW Group Sales

In total, BMW Group in the U.S. (BMW and MINI combined) reported March 2018 sales of 35,842 vehicles, a decrease of 0.4 percent from the 36,002 vehicles sold in the same month a year ago.

BMW Group Electrified Vehicle Sales

BMW Group in the U.S. (BMW and MINI combined) sales of electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles totaled 2,662 in March 2018, an increase of 71.1 percent from the 1,556 sold in the same month a year ago. BMW Group electrified vehicles accounted for 7.4 percent of U.S. sales in March 2018.

BMW Group currently offers seven electrified models in the U.S., including the BMW i3, BMW i8, BMW 330e, BMW 530e, BMW 740e BMW X5 xDrive 40e and MINI Countryman plug-in-hybrid electric vehicle.

BMW Pre-Owned Vehicles

In March, BMW Certified Pre-Owned sold 11,666 vehicles, a decrease of 8 percent from March 2017.
Total BMW Pre-Owned sold 22,690 vehicles, an increase of 4.5 percent from March 2017.

MINI Pre-Owned Vehicles

MINI Certified Pre-Owned sold 1,122 vehicles in March, an increase of 6.3 percent from March 2017.
Total MINI Pre-Owned sold 3,025 vehicles in March, an incrase of 2.4 percent from March 2017.

3 series sales have fallen off a cliff, still have an other 7 months until EOP 10/19. Incentives should increase. Not too promising for the 4 series despite the MY 2018 LCI and another 2 1/2 years of production left. Looking forward to what rabbits BMW NA pulls out of their hat with special editions, colors, etc to maintain sales, as increasing incentives for the long of a time period is not sustainable long term nor a viable business model.

6 series is impressive, and X5 holding strong despite no LCI and EOP 8/18.

State/federal incentives drove i3 sales, but when the clock tics midnight sales will plument.

I'd assume if you don't give them credit for the X1/X2 then it probably isn't. But if you include all fwd based cars, they probably still are.

Sorry to ruin the rainy day Dr.Doomsday... but they still sold how many 3 and 4 series this month? They sold nearly 4845 of the 3er and the 4er was essentially unchanged since last year. They sold more 3ers than the brand new incoming 5er as well. I find it interesting that you claim the 3er sales " fell off a cliff " while the X3 figures for both 2017 and 2018 are nearly identical to the 3er but actually have a larger drop by percentage.. that's with the X3 replacement is already hitting the streets..

In March 2018 the 3er still sold the most of any BMW model and YTD the 3er is down a mere 6.7 percent..

Economies of scale are shared with the flexibility of the twinned BMW models. X1,2er Active/Gran Tourer and the Chinese built X1L and iPerformance and the BMW 1er Sedan which are leading the momentum in BMWs sales in China.
And now the X2 is about to arrive and with high orders that expectations predict a 6 months full sales.

Multiply all markets for 3er and 4er sales and the figures are significant, same goes for the 5er. The new X3 is sold out for nearly 6 months. And we are still on the verge of further line introductions of the X3M40d(Europe),X3M,X3iPerformance and iX3 which will be shown as a concept car in Beijing shortly.
The introduction of X2 and X4 are around the corner. Which given their preferred choice these models will be huge sellers in the USA.

The new MINI for 2018 is about to hit the market. So I expect people would be waiting.

I think the X2 will sell well as it essentially is a hatchback... the X4 with it's trunk.. and higher price and reduced utility vs the X3... I don't see it doing much more than the prior model X4... aside from a boost from an X4M... but ya'll might want to dial up production of the X3 then... with three or four more variants coming..

The MINI Hardtop LCI...

The 3 series production has also slowed up. That's a reason for the decrease. BMW is gearing up for the G20. The 3 series will still always be the bread and butter of BMW. CPO sales on the 3 series remains strong.
