Jaguar XE SV Project 8 laps the Nürburgring in 7:21.23

XE SV Project 8 shaved 11 seconds off production sedan record of 'Green Hell'

by ANDREW MCCREDIE

LOS ANGELES — Well, I guess this backs up Jaguar’s seemingly over-the-top reference to the XE SV Project 8 as “the most extreme Jaguar ever.”

On the eve of the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show, the legendary British brand announced — okay, boasted — that the prototype has set “the fastest time ever by a sedan of production-intent specification” of the 20.7-kilometre Nürburgring Nordschleife.

The new record of seven minutes, 21.23 seconds around the ‘Green Hell’ is a full 11 seconds quicker than the previous time set by a sedan of production-intent spec, putting the 592-horsepower Jaguar ahead of some of the world’s fastest two-door coupes and exotic cars.

According to the automaker, the XE SV Project 8— designed, engineered and hand-assembled by Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division—sprints from zero to 60 m.p.h. in 3.3 seconds and has a top speed of 200 m.p.h.

“SVO exists to push the boundaries of performance, luxury and all-terrain capability,” said John Edwards, Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations Managing Director. “The hand-assembled XE SV Project 8 takes that principle to the limit, extracting supercar-beating performance from Jaguar’s most compact four-door sedan.”

Added SVO Director Mark Stanton: “The SVO design and engineering team’s mission was to create the most track-focused road-legal Jaguar in history – not only the fastest, but also the most agile. As a result, only the roof and front door skins of the Project 8 body are carried-over unaltered from XE and 75 per cent of its mechanical hardware is new.”

The automaker has limited production of the 2019 Project 8 to 300 units for sale worldwide with a price tag of US$187,500 and expected delivery date of some time in 2018.

this in regular r/svr spec trim will be a bigger wake up call for the germans than the alfa qv was

i don't really care much for lap times, but the chassis on XE is miles ahead of anything germany is producing - all alu, double wishbone front, integral link rear

and then you have that engine, one of the best soundtracks and character on sale today

The M3 is hardly track specific; last time I checked I didn't have a roll bar or race seats with a bench in the back. Your response made me grin but its hardly accurate.

Just to be clear, the roll cage is an option with the race buckets and likely won't even be available for the US cars.
