Cold Air Intakes
Hey,
Has anyone gotten any Real Dyno. Spec's. to prove actual HP gains for any CAI's - alone?? Stock - With no added Tunes, Downpipes or any Exhaust Mod's., etc. If the CAI is legit, any additonal mod. is, as is said, "icing...". If so, which, of all the CAI's out there, is real and worth it? "Inquiring minds..." Cheers! |

IMHO: Save the cash and focus on tuning/upgraded turbos if you want serious power.

Stock car? No power added
The more mods you add , the more an intake will be beneficial as a performance mod. But even then, it wont make a huge difference. If you are looking for power, there are more valuable mods. Intakes is mostly for sound and looks.

Ok., so the car "breathes" better, that's a plus, right? Are there any Dry Air Filters out there for our application? Most oiled AF's get very grungy and you have to be on top of maintaining (Clean and Re-oil) them constantly. I appreciate any and all Info.! Cheers! |

K&N recommending waiting until 50K to clean, seems a bit excessive. We typically recommend shaking out the dirt/loose particles every engine oil change, full cleaning at 15K. Car breathes better, and its the last time you have to buy filters since they're reuseable. We have a full BMC replacment DIY here for filters to give an overview on replacing filters: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1014235

Hey,
No disrespect. I can appreciate that you sell, "BMC". There was a brand, "Pro...", I can't recall the name precisely, that did make a Dry AF for the F8x series. Any ideas / Any one? Cheers! |

Performance gains will be negligible going from an OEM paper filter to "performance" paper filter, no matter what magic shape or material the intake is offered in.

So, then an "Oiled" AF is better/more (while maintained) effecient? |

Yes, oiled filters are higher flowing. The oil allows airborne dust/particles to be trapped.

From my experience, they don't make any power on the dyno, but the sound is pretty cool!
I'll see if I can find my old dynos from stock and modded. |

Waste gate duty cycle. The more the car needs to exhaust air the more the car needs to take air in.

WGDC is probably better understood as how much "more" the turbo's need to spin to reach boost target - it comes down to improving efficiency when you want to lower WGDC to achieve the same amount of boost.
