Mpe muffler water leak....is this normal?

Hey guys, I just found my Mpe leaking water in the middle of the mpe muffler. Pic attached. Any thoughts? I did't find any cracks on the side of muffler. Also my Mpe rattle a bit around 1000 rpm after I coldstart. Plz help

Can't comment on the water leaks but mine had a rattle at the same revs and was replaced under warranty.

At cold start mine had a rattle when I got it but I tightened the bolts in the tips and the rattle stopped completely.

That looks to be a little bit more than the average condensation found in all exhaust systems. It's best to have a dealer inspect it for possible defects.

Its cracked and the exhaust is leaking water/condensation out of it, although I think that is the first I have seen crack in that spot. Just another thing to add to the list of fucked up MPE problems (cracking, rattling, being an over all POS).

And this is coming from an MPE owner.

What a sad story, I only have this MPE for 3000 miles, Does this leak cause any weird sound or it is just unnoticeable ?

Most definitely can be the sound you're hearing.

Why sad? Should be covered under warranty

Because BMW won't warranty without a receipt or some kind of proof of install by a BMW dealership. So second hand owners are SOL.

Did you hit the exhaust on something? What are those two dents/scrape?

I don't know whether my mpe is hit by something or not. But there are two dent lines up straightly in the middle of the muffler and two dents are finished evenly. So IMP, these to dent are originally on the brand new muffler. Any MPE users have this kind of dent?

I purchased MPE brand new in Feb and I have receipt. If the leak is caused by hitting something, warranty still apply?

Inspect for Possible Defects? Really? The big crack in the canister isn't obvious/defect enough?

I'm surprised BMW F'd up the engineering behind the MPE exhaust so badly. 5K POS

I don't see how you could have hit something and not known. It would have hit other undercarriage parts and your front bumper. That would be odd because I'm sure it would make noise and you would have noticed. You can ask and deny you hit something especially if you don't know. Why admit to it if you can't definitively say you did?

I just checked some MPE PICs, two dents are definitely no cause by hit. Every Mpes have those dent. It is definitely another quality issue of the Exhaust other than cracking on sides.

He could have slowly backed into a curb that was slightly high enough to be unnoticed but enough to cause damage but that's just a wild guess.

I don't see any obvious dents on your MPE. The impression near the water stain are either wield seams or stamp imprints.

I would take it to BMW and see if they would replace it under warranty. Would be cool to have a brand new one!

That isn't a dent. It's there on both of the MPEs I've had. Mine was replaced under warranty for splitting on sides. You don't need to have cracking to have rattling. Others have had stuck valves.

When I had my cracks, moisture was coming out of them causing the white crust you see there. It does appear you may have a crack, but as someone else has posted, that isn't a common area where cracking occurs. If you have all of your papers in order, just take it to the dealer and have them check it out.

If you have a receipt just take it to BMW and have them warranty it. Don't let them give you any shit either.
